Is is pratical to replace the present keyless control unit with an aftermarket unit that will wire in place. If so, what is recommended and is there a wiring diag available?

Hi,
I am not sure that I understand your question but I have fitted an alarm to mine that also links to the central locking and so arming and disarming also locks and unlocks the car. This is very basic on most alarms, is this what you mean? If not then what is wrong with the standard way of unlocking the car with the small button on the key?
Cheers

Yes, this is what I mean, My keys have finally quit even with new batteries. I want a low cost way to lock/ unlock using an aftermarket device. Where should it be installed and how to wire it into the present system (91 LS 400)

Hi
Out of Idle curiosity, and for future reference, how much would a proper Lexus replacement key cost?

I was told three years ago the cost would be about $ 360; the receiving unit must also be changed. I have been able to track down the necessary wires connected to the recieving unit that lock & unlock the doors. I am working on adding an aftermarket unit that will also unlock the trunk as well for a cost of $ 50. All the wires are in the trunk and not that hard to get to.

i purchased a new key with built in transmitter on ebay for $40. just have to get it keyed for my car now. the fcc id is the same, so i just need to get it programed for my car next. i heard you don't need a new receiver as long as the key can be programmed for your car.
