Sorry if this has been brought up elsewhere but:

I was at my dealer yesterday to have some new alloys put on under warranty and a few other bits and pieces I brought up the issue of poor fuel consumption and they advised me that the day prior they had received a new software update from Lexus GB for the ecu (which I have had) and they were in the process of arranging a recall for all models. And anyone who has not had the 5th injector replaced can soon expect a recall soon also, (are things looking up?)

Apparently - so I've been told the only difference I will spot with the updated ECU is the idle speed......... Can't say I've noticed anything unsure.gif

offtopic.gif I had a loan of the RX400h for the day what a machine absolutely loved the drive but I felt that the interior was bit cheap shutup.gif

My IS220D is booked in for a service next week and when I mentioned that it was giving poor fuel consumption AND poor power they mentioned ithere is a recall going out very soon for replacing the 5th injector and an ECU remap... I'm getting mine done on the service, so I'll revert with the improved fuel economy figures! If they don't improve you will see me posting on the BMW owners club next!

I'm currently getting 34 to 38mpg regardless of how I drive, and pulling away from a standing start is abysmal. driving.gif

Apart from that, a great car with all the toys. Just a shame it doesn't have performance and economy to match (or beat) a BMW 320D

I am a new IS 220d owner and bought a 06 model with only 6k on the clock. I was only getting 32 to the gallon including a steady run from Derby to Newcastle.
I registered my concern with the Dealer who changed the 5th injector, which made little difference, they eventually agreed to exchange the vehicle.
Unfortunately I have had to buy a newer model at an extra cost just to get the sort of consumption detailed in the promotion material.

The dealer has been good but Lexus have shown no support to me or the dealer. I have spoken to customer services who said the fuel figs. were only indicative!
That there was northing they could or would do! So much for Lexus legendary customer service!

I wrote in May about my poor consumption figures. the car has apparently had the 5th injector mod and ECU remap, but consumption is still abysmal. Still averaging 34 to 38 irrespective of driving styles, journey types etc. Car is back in tomorrow, interestingly also for alloys replacement under warranty as per the note below. Will also be mentioning the poor consumption again and that if it doesn't improve I will be selling up. This is likely to be costing me circa £1000 per year in fuel. Not impressed.

I had my recall letter 4 weeks ago & the 5th injector was replaced again (for the 4th time) but it didn't stop my breaking down again last week. 70,000 miles & 6 breakdowns isn't what I expected from a Lexus - not to mention 32mpg...

there must be something else wrong, have you had your injectors tested as mine is almost 43mpg consistently.if i were in your position i would pursue the dealer under the sale of goods act.

Hi All

new member on here, wished I'd found it 7 months ago when choosing the IS220d...

Mine has been plaugue with poor power, poor consumption and such poor throttle response when pulling way that it's nearly cause collisions on about 5 or 6 occassions. The car is a late 2007 IS220d.

To date it's had the following under warranty:
New common rail
New bleed down valve
new injectors
new 5th injector twice (plus modified I think!)
new exhaust gas recycling valve (EGR)
about 4 ecu remaps

fingers crossed, this has improved the car no end and it's very nearly a pleasure to drive again - the new EGR seems to have made the biggest impact - worth naggingyour dealer about if it's not already done. I also understand from a friend in the trade that there are new injectors being fitted of a different design as the originals "dribble" and eventually coke up the inlet manifold causing the power loss. The new ones are Nippon Denso piezos apparently

Fuel economy is now low to mid 40s and response and power are vastly improved

Having complained on numerous occasions about the fuel consumption of my IS220d and the dealer having tried this and that I have now had the 5th injector replaced and the EMC re-mapped etc and fuel consumption has improved to 32mpg on a run (dual carriageway), providing I drive steadily. But when I was given an identical courtesy car, another IS220d, I got over 47mpg. The dealer said I could bring it back if I still wasn’t satisfied with my car but I got the distinct impression they did not know what else they could do. One of the Telegraph’s motoring correspondents recommended I take it to a fuel injection specialist as he said there was something serious wrong. Has anyone tried this and is there a firm anyone could recommend?

Assuming your car is still in warranty, throw it back to the dealer. 32mpg is sh*te.

Your dealer should have all the service bulletins relating to the injector swap (to Denso items), 5th injector change, Exhaust Gas Recycling valve change and ECU remap which should get close to sorting it. These are well know nods within the dealer network. Just changing the 5th injector won't sort it, the ERG valve needs doing too and the Denso injectors don't leak and mess up the fueling. You may also want to suggest they change the Bleed Down Valve on the common rail - it bleeds off excess fuel pressure

My mpg has been getting worse. Initially I was getting about 42mpg consistently, my wife even managed 50 on a run to Newcastle & back. Now my indicated average is about 36 & tank average about 33.

I've done 55k miles in 2 years, had the 5th injector replaced & the ecu remapped once. Could my worsening mpg be because the egr valve etc has not been done? Am I likely to have any joy with the dealer on this?
