Hi all,
Just a short introduction on this very usefull site (been reading here since I ordered my Dark Granite w/ Beige leather IS220D + ML and Navi 2 weeks ago).
Got the car last friday and enjoying every minute driving it.
Just have 2 questions, maybe someone can help me out here..
1) How do you switch of the motor but keep the ACC on (If I use the stop button, bluetooth and audio are also shutdown immediately, which is kind of annoying)
2) Shifting from 1st to 2nd gear makes some noise and is not as fluently as moving from 2 to 3 and so on. Is this normal or should I see my delaer (who is abt. 200km away)

Cunsumption so far is 7.8/100km which seems to be 'normal' (Ok, my previous car, Skoda Octavia 1.9 105HP was less, abt 5.1 but in no way comparable with the Lexus)

best regards from belgium

Dear Jan,

Which version do you have (Executive, Sport or other), I'm driving the Executive version and have the same problem with shifting between first and second gear, I've read some comments about this on this forum and the shifting will improve if you done more kilometers. I've done now 3500 km and it is improving altough I find the first gear to short. Which dealer you bought it ??, I've bought mine in Wijnegem near Antwerp.

My usage with "cheap" diesel was 8,2 ltr/100km, since I start to use Total Excellium i'm doing 7,6/100km, but not going above 130 km/ph.

Hi Hans,
I have the executive and bought it in Liege (living in the Ardennes near the French border). I drove 1200km so far, and really hope the shifting will get better. I'm using Avia Diesel (as the station is close) but from now on will try Total Excellium as it seems worth trying.

Jan,

Its good to know that more people drive the Lexus IS, I never saw one in Belgium. I'm from Holland with my Business in Belgium, but this model is very popular in Holland. I have a (long) vibration when i'm doing 135 in 6th gear. Are you experiencing any vibrations ??

I'm also from Holland but moved to belgium 10 years ago with my company. Nice to see a fellow 'nederlander' here.
My choice for the lexus was quite impulsive.. was shopping for an Audi A5 but delivery only for November... looked at the A4.. same story, stopped at the Lexus dealer, saw the IS220, drove it for 30 minutes and signed for delivery 2 weeks later.
So far, I've seen 2 IS220's in Belgium so they're quite unique, another advantage over the Audi's.
I'll check tomorrow on the vibration issue, driving to Maastricht in the morning and let you know if I have the same problem

Which kind of the noise? Rating noise? I do not like it, but I have got the same experience, if this noise is not from engine but just from gear-shift lever.

I have 15.000 km and my average consumption is 8,5 l/100km (33 mpg), combination motor way (140 - 160 km/h) and urban. Sometimes is up to 10 l/100km (28 mpg) - motor way (180+ km/h). The best consumption is on the country roads (90 km/h) - 7,5 l/100km (38 mpg).

Thanks for your reaction, when I contacted (by Phone) the dealer about this problem he said "dont use the 6th gear, but use 5th, it makes no difference in the fuel consumption", of course I do not agree because its still there in 5th gear. Anyway I will request to have a look at it.

the handbook says 6th gear is use able from 75 mph onwards.tell them that you know about the fixand that you want it done,it pays to be firm with the dealers.

Hans,
I've the same vibrations at around 135 km/h in 6th...
I also visited my dealer regarding the clutch sound (and shifting problems from 1st to 2ns as well as from 2nd to 1st) He told me it's normal as the gearbox is just underneath the shift stick and thus more direct than Audi's etc. I call it BS.
Will visit another dealer next week (maybe Wijnegem or Hasselt) as if this is the Lexus way of perfection, my Lexus won't last very long and I'll trade it in for something with a decent gearbox. (Both Audi and BMW know how to do gearboxes)

Hi Jan,

Thanks for the tryout, regarding the gear shifts that wil improve, I´ve done now 4k and it goes smooter but I find the 1st gear to short. Did you informed the dealer about the vibrations ?? and what was his reply? I dont have the problem with the clutch sound, there is non. For the rest the car is great but the vibrations are very annoying.
