This is for the wifes IS200...Anyone know the cheapest place to buy from apart direct from Toyota? They are not cheap and apparently they are not seperate from the hub so you have to get the lot as one part. £160+ each inc VAT.

Unusual i have been told for a car which has covered 65k. There are a lot of speed bumps round here though.

Any help appreciated.

Thats extremely unusual as the 'knocking' noise which was apparent has now gone away. There was proof that there was play in the back 2 ball joints which were suspected to be the knocking noise. Still could do with the best and cheapest place to obtain 2 back ball joints in case anyway.

Thanks

theres a place on ebay that have them knocking about for about 50 quid

They are £50 from Lexus for genuine parts so less if you add £10 for postage

Do you mean the suspension bushes? They are part of the hub carrier and you need to buy the whole carrier to replace the bushes, i just got one from Lexus and it was just over £ 140 inc. VAT. Tried all over for a pattern part and had no luck anywhere. You will probably need a new bearing as well because it will probably break if you try to press it out, cost is about £80 inc VAT from Lexus and £50 from a motor factor

There are 2 ball joints, 1 is on the upper suspension arm and the other is on the tracking control arm, to change either of them you don't need the hub carrier.

Hope that helps.

So a new suspension arm will have 2 new ball joints? As we believe that is what is causing the problem.
The lower arm seems to have play.

No the No. 2 lower suspension arm (main one that the ARB connects to) has a bolt going through a bush on the hub carrier at the outer end. There is another suspension arm that goes forward at an angle. The ball joints are on the upper arm and the track control arm.

Have a look HERE Thanks Noel :-)

So what would you say needs replacing?
The entire lot?

Did you click the link in my last post? That shows an exploded diagram of how it all goes together.

Don't know exactly what needs replaced but you say that the ball joints are the problem, if so it is either the top suspension arm or No1 lower arm, in either case you don't need the hub carrier as well. It is more likely that the suspension bushes are shot, they are part of the hub carrier.

That sounds feasable mate. I think the lot needs replacing from what i was told and they knew what they were talking about.
Do you know the part no for the suspension bushes inc hub carrier?

No worries, provided it's the bushes the part you need is ""Rear Axle Carrier Sub-Assembly" one of the first 2 on the list dependant on which side. As said before you will probably need a bearing as well.

Would you say it would be an option to get to a scrap yard and salvage one of an '03 plate to save some money?
Replacing both sides is gonna be an expensive job. I didnt realise that the bearing was also seperate as well!
MacRS200
Costly yes, I just got stung for one.

You could get them off a scrappie and don't worry about the year AFAIK they didn't change with year. Problem is that you don't know what you are buying and they may not have much life left in them. Say you may get them half price with a decent bearing you would save £190.

Not wanting to offend, but I assume you will be getting a garage to do the work for you and with a following wind I would estimate about 2 hours per side, about 4 hours total. So you are looking at a labour bill of around £120 minimum.

Total cost for new, fitted with new bearings would be around £500, breakers with new bearings £360 or beakers with old bearings £310. So worst case is the breakers parts last a year to the next MOT and you end up with another £360 bill for a saving of £190.

Suppose "you pays your money and takes your choice". Try 247spares for prices and see what comes back.

Hope that helps.

Funnily enough Mac the noise has now stopped. Has done for 2 days. Doesnt mean that it isnt there and doesnt mean i dont know of an issue present.
The total labour without parts will be £165.

Didnt realise how expensive these parts would be?!
Weird as i was told that on a 65k car this is very unusual. Fronts yeah, backs no. On 100k cars this hasnt been an issue. cry.gif

Depends on age as well, the rubbers in the bushes can perish. The one I need to do is on the Mrs car with 70K miles on it.
