Hi all

Going nuts at the minute, recently developed a rattle somewhere behind the front dash, on the passengers side. I've stripped the glovebox and bits out but can't see anything loose. Got the guy who fitted the hands free kit to recheck his stuff as he fitted the aeriel and speaker on this side [The rattle started about a month after this]. Nothing loose and to be fair the rattle seems to be coming from high up and almost sounds like a serious [weighty] cable slapping the inner wing.

Anybody had a similar problem. How big a job is it to take the dash out enough to get behind it?

Thanks

MAC

Hi Mac, I don't know if this will be the problem but I had a rattle in the dash on my GS300 mk2 a while back, it turned out to be the switch in the glovebox that operates the glove box light.
It did make a loud rattle for such a small item and became very annoying after a while so had it replaced and the problem was solved.

Cheers

Tried it without the glovebox in - still there - but thanks for the suggestion

Mac.

Hi. One thing to check because it happened on mine. It sounded like it was coming from the dash but it was the rubber srtipping around the bonnet-opening flapping around at speed. My dealer knew exactly what it was.

Open the bonnet and check the security of the sealing strip on the opening in front of the bulkhead. If it has split, it can easilt be glued back.

You do not want to take the dashboard out - it was built to Boeing standards!

That got my hopes up - checked the seal and though in good condition one of the retaining plugs was missing so some of it was lose. Used some sealant to stick it down but still had the rattle. Looks like it's gonna be put up with it or get the dash out and find the culprit mad.gif

New update on this problem - recently had to replace the rear tyres and at the same time got them to check the balancing on the front as there was some vibration. To do all this they just stuck it on one of those ramps with four arms that locate under the sills.

Once they'd finished I was amazed to find that the rattle had gone smile.gif Unfortuantely it has slowly returned sad.gif It has however got me thinking, could the noise be to do with something on the suspension rather than "behind the dash"?
