As some of you may know, it is a common issue where the power antenna gets snapped or bent. The replacement of the actual antenna mast is not covered here. However, the toothed cord inside the mast can break off and this procedure will help you retrieve the broken cord before installing your new mast.

Step 1: Remove the top lock nut from the antenna. Use an old rag or similar to protect the paintwork when releasing this nut. It an be tricky so beware of your tools slipping off and scratching your beloved GS.

Step 2: Remove the angled grommet from the antenna tip.

Step 3: Remove the left hand side boot trim panel to reveal the antenna motor unit in the wing. Not the remote petrol flap realease tab and cable needs to be fed through the trim panel before removal.

Step 4: unplug the main connector near the base of the unit.

Step 5: Now undo the two nuts arrowed

Step 6: The whole unit can now be lowered down in the wing and the coax lead disconnected and the unit removed from the vehicle.

Step 7: Now remove the side of the antenna unit (for some reason I forgot the do a pic of the side cover on the unit D'oh). I have arrowed where the screws/bolts need to be removed from

Step 8: The broken cord will be coiled up inside the cylinder in the center and can now be retrieved.

Step 9: Re-assembly is just the reverse of the dismantling.

Hope this helps somebody. Any questions, please feel free to ask.
