Hi
My brake pad warning light has come on on my 1996 LS400.
Question is has anybody changed their brakepads?? is it pretty straight forward or is it better left in the garages hands.
I have changed brakepads before on my camry but that did not have any sensors attached so i need advice wether to tackle this myself or take to the garage.
Also what are the best pads for these cars - especially those that dont give out black brake dust!
thanks for your help in advance
regards

Pads not difficult, sensors not cheap if worn through, I think some dust is inevitable as the pads wear.
Although it's a drag, cleaning the wheels as often as you can helps keep the black stains from getting too
difficult to remove.

Very easy to change, But getting the sensor off the pad without braking it is something else if they have never been off before.
The sensors are around £48 plus vat new but you can also just wire the two wires together to stop the warning light coming on if you bkake them taking them off.

Hi, my garage did exactly that with the wires as they were a pain to remove intact, and £ 100 for a couple of sensors is a lot. Been fine since new pads fitted, all you got to do is check your pad wear manualy between mots,
cheers steve.

hi
due to work commitments i bought genuine pads and had them fitted locally. The garage was relectant to cut the wires so i still have the brake pad warning light on but the brakes abviously work fine. I am however very dissappointed in the brake pads - the simply emit too much black dust - i do most local driving and the alloys are black within a week.
If anybody can recommend some decent brake pads which dont emit too much dust then i shall be glad to hear from them.

If the '96 is the same as the '94 the wires have to be joined not cut to put the light out!

I am surprised the geniune Lexus pads are giving problems I fitted some aftermarket ones on mine and they were terrible, black dust and squealing.
Fitted genuine Toyota and not a problem since.

Hi There
You should check that your rear brake light bulbs are working okay and not blown as this sometimes operates the brake warning light - I had this problem some time ago and a new bulb solved the fault

There is a separate warning light for the bulbs and another one for the pads. I was going to put a blob of solder onto the wires to join them but never got around to it.
