Full Version: Wanted Set Of 18" Alloys For Is300

Hi,

the chrome alloys that came with the car are flaking badly

A tyre wnet down within 24hrs, it was replaced yesterday, but the new tyre has done the same - apparently the wheel is just to far gone...

So anyone got a nice set of 18" alloys for an IS300?

I hadn't appreciated that you couldn't refurbish chrome wheels - lesson to me for next car I buy!

Cheers

Will

I actually have a set of 4 genuine brand new and boxed TRD triple plated chrome rims (I had another set on the GS, and they never flaked).

They were designed for the SC430 out in California, but can fit GS, LS and IS models too. They take 245/40 tyres. I'm looking for £800, as that's how much they cost me to import in from LA.

Maneesh - thank you for your prompt reply - they do look v. good, but I just can't bring myself to get chrome wheels again... I guess it's knowing that if we have a mishap they cannot be easily sorted (refurbed). Thanks again though - maybe somebody else will fall for 'em!

What colour is your car and what colour wheels you looking for?

Can you not have them refurbished with a normal finish put back on? I know chrome plating can get expensive but surely you can strip off all the chrome and just have them powder coated (obviously only if you still want to keep the same alloys)

Yes you can as thats what i've done.

Mmm I had thought about this before & approached a local place for an email quote - the following reply suggested the economics weren't promising...:
"...Unfortunately it is quite expensive, the last
quote we received was £100 + vat a wheel, just to remove the chrome, then
there would be the cost of powder coating the wheel....
"

I'm intrigued though, Scorps01, as I note you had a set of 18"s refurbed at WIM at a price that makes it worth considering - key question were these the ones you refer to here (i.e chromed)?

If so I'd better give Tony another call as I'm booked in for a geo check & tyres later in the month anyway! smile.gif

Our IS300 is plat ice so a refurbed shiney alloy finish would bring us back to a similar look to what it has now. Unfortunately one of the wheels has a couple of dinks that I doubt could be built up, & it's probably more honest to leave them so any future buyer nows they are there but are cosmetic.

below is an example pic (sorry about it's quality, taken at night etc sleepy.gif ) - it's not the dinked wheel though

thanks for all thoughts so far

Hiya many thanks for the offer - I've been lucky elsewhere - with a set of wheels that have recently been refurbed by WIM.

Thanks again all for the interest (& suggestions)

I'll probably be selling my wheels here & via ebay once I've cleaned them up - not for too much though as the chrome is a bit flakey at the edges msn-wink.gif

Was it Darrens wheels?
