Right i've replaced my TTE black box with a Greddy Emanage now in prep for some more mods i'm planning so it's no use to me anymore.

So if anyones Black box is playing up, and they keep cutting out, or they've replaced it with a HKS FCD and aren't fully happy.

Here's your chance to get another Black box.

Looking for £100 including postage and Paypal fees (to the UK)

Considering TTE don't do these any more and you'll pay a lot more than that for the TTE silver box.

Stav
Carles
Do you have for sale other some parts from TTE compressor?

DJ Wozza
I have one too, but mine was playing up so used the HKS FCD on 10 and works fine.
These black boxes are extinct now, and the silver ones are even more expensive......

offtopic.gif but Wozza how did you decide on setting 10? Recently had a dyno run (on Dyno Dynamics machine) and the car is running rather lean at 8, so I dialed it to 9 and waiting for the next dyno run.

I spoke to Steve @ Charlesworth, he gave me the info saying "the last one we fitted worked best on 10"
Yaumeister
More offtopic.gif I promise it's the last one from me, thanks for the info Wozza, got an hour booked on the rollers so will play around with the settings. Seems like the original FCD recommendation of 8 or 9 should be adjusted to 9 or 10.
waynejordan02
offtopic.gif i also have mine at 10 after trying 8 and 9 and found 10 ran better a bit more responsive than 8 and 9 sorry for the highjack

LOL does nobody just want the Black box back to save this hassle wink.gif

Stav

offtopic.gif I have a HKS FCD for sale Cheap on Ebay as well if someone's interested in that wink.gif

I have been quotes about 300 EURO by TTE recently, so I presume this is the new version.

Stav, I need one, as you well know from my previous posts, mine died and my FCD (second hand) doesn't work correctly, if at all! But at £100, it is the same price as a new FCD (fitted). These box's are know to fail after 2-3 years as far as i can gather. How old is yours? Cos if it may go the way of my original one in a few months, I'd rather get an FCD. Can ya see where I'm coming from mate?

I may be better off with ure FCD. Though I disagree with your description of it as cheap (as i think does Wozza!). I've been quoted £100 inc. fitting for a new one. (Think casing is different on new one, but pretty sure device is same.) The last one I bought second hand was £45, thou that didn't work, so maybe a bad example!!!

I was told at one point that a Greddy BCC would be a better option but no longer available. Think it was you Stav who told me this! They are now available £82 delivered.

I must go for one of these options thou.

Why's £100 Expensive? or for that matter £69 expensive for the FCD?

You cant get a black box anymore and the Silver box is a lot more expensive.
And £100 including fitting? How much fitting you expecting to be charged for replacing 4 wires with another 4 wires? a £30 saving is cheap in my book.

My black box is a couple of years old but it was working fine when i removed it. Like anything i cant say if it'll work forever, but as for black boxes failing after 2 - 3 years. thats not them all, some have been going for years and years.

And the black box works differently to the FCD. Hence why Yaumieister will be getting Lean figures on the dyno.

The FCD works by taking the input and only sending out a percentage of that figure back out to the ECU. Depending on what number you have it on. (the lower the number the lower the percentage). So you have to make sure the output at full boost is lower than the fuel cut voltage. But obviously your putting less air flow through the range so the ECU sends out less fuel than needed for the actual air amount right through the range. Not enough to cause the engine to go bang obviously but a lower AFR non the less.

The TTE black box on the other hand is pre set. It tops out the figure at the fuel cut (4.34v, on a 0-5v range incidentally) so at that figure it just sends out the same airflow signal to the ECU regardless. But there isnt a lot of range above that with the standard setup so its not too lean.
But heres the difference. Going up the range the TTE box actually sends out a HIGHER airflow to the ECU so it causes the ecu to send MORE fuel out, giving you a better AFR and maybe even some more power.

Hope this helps you understand. While the FCD does the job, its not a perfect replacement for the TTE black box. So i stand with my Price of £100 as reasonable. And £69 for the FCD is a good price IMHO.

I had edited the above post BTW, in case you didn't notice. About the BCC, though i'm not sure if they are compatible or not, says 2JZ-GTE.

I wasn't saying that £100 was expensive exactly, just that it was the price of an FCD, and yes i know the fitting is quite simple, just mentioned it that way, effectivlly the fitting is free!

If the box is superior to an FCD then maybe that is a fair price. It's hard to accuratly value a used compnent that is no longer available anyway!

Mine was fine too, right up until the minute the engine stalled and wouldn't re-start! Ok, so that's a joke, of course you cannot guarantee it's future performance. I just thought with my luck i could see that happening to me again!

Do you have the Greddy Emanage all up and running then? What mods do you have in mind?
sparkystav
The BCC is better than the FCD because as far as i believe it just had a cut off point same as the Black box, but the cut off point is changeable. It doesnt lower the value right through the range so it shouldnt be lean right through.

I havent had one to test so i can't guarantee that but thats what i'm led to believe from reading up on them.

And yes the Greddy is set up now for the standard setup. I just fitted it with the black box and logged the readings from the black box. Replaced them in the Emanage and job done. Removed the black box and i'm happy.
So basically its just running as an Expensive black box at the moment. but when i get some money together and a couple of other bits i'm planning some power upgrades. Unsure of which way to go yet though.

Thanks Stav, I pretty much understood that from your descriptions a few months back!

The BCC i saw on ebay, item number 350030000841, but not certain would be compatible or not?

So basically, the black box is better than an FCD, and a BCC is about as good as the black box (thou adjustable, that is not required.) Would you agree?

Not had a lot of interest here....any movement on the price? whistling.gif

Your a good man, Stav, and I'd like to take your black box off ya.

I just need to find the cash, as just done stereo install, MOT, tax and 4 tyres, oh, and bought a Suzuki Vitara. Things are tight to say the least!

offtopic.gif So you going for BIG power are ya? Full internal job then? Sticking with the TTE or going Rotrex or Turbo? Not gonna be cheap!!! offtopic.gif

But your car was running lean when you had it on the r/road with the tte black box fitted whistling.gif if fact thay all do ohmy.gif

Out of the two, i would have the HKS FCD over the black tte box.
sparkystav
Mine ran lean at the top of the scale Gord, where the TTE box flatlines to prevent fuel cut.

Where is Yaumieister running lean, all the time or top end of the scale ?

My first dyno run result isn't accurate because it turns out I have, shamefully several loose hoses, as aztecbandit1 would testify to as he was there as well when I did the run at JTS. I don't know how that exactly would alter the AFR reading, but it was running lean the whole way through then.

Now that the hoses have been tightened, once I do some runs at a local tuning place (Northampton Motorsport) and play with the FCD settings a bit, I shall report back.

I do apologise for kind of hijacking this thread and going offtopic.gif again.

Hi Mark, is that jts place where lexus Sam had all the turbo work done to his car ?

Nah, this is one of those mobile dyno at the Japanese Tuning Show at Silverstone where Dave did his Time Attack and the one you didn't turn up to whistling.gif

OK, so tell me if I'm wrong here, would Stav's bigger FMIC contribute to the lean AFR at all?

Mine was dyno'd (November) with black box (and TTE air box). I was told the AFR was spot on all the way throu.
