Hi can anyone tell me tell me what the white blotch on ls430 back p/s window is and is there a cheap fix.

Hi, I have it on my LS430 too and have seen it on most pre 2005 LS430's in different parking lots and stuck on traffic.
It's never really botherd me too much.
It looks like a vapour chemical reaction you get from using something like super-glue near glass.
I stuck my easypass tag on with super glue and it left that same white blotch on the windscreen, it's behind the rear-view mirror so I never see it.
It's a strange one...

I once had a rear window replaced on a Rover 800 fastback that I had stuck a third brake light on with superglue, it shattered all by itself during the night.

The installer said that the majority of their work came from people who had used superglue to stick their rear view mirrors back on.

Some sort of reaction I think.

So tip of the day:

Dont use superglue on car windows!!

A little late, but thanks for the tip! Hope my screen doesn't shatter. It has been stuck on for a year now, so maybe I am in the safety zone!

I have it on my LS430 on the drivers door, it is know as "frosting" (assuming you have laminated glass fitted), and is supposed to caused by some window cleaner solvents attacking the double glazed windows from the bottom of the window as the solvent runs down the window and collects at the base of the glass.
I dident read that anyone had found a way to stop it, you just have to hope it does not spread. the only solution is to replace the glass!

I hate to throw a spanner in the works here but I am pretty sure that the fogging you are refering to is caused by moisture getting into the window, the laminated glass is three layers two outside ones of glass and a plastic inner layer, when the seal at the edge of the glass gives up, moisture gets in between the glass and the plastic. It is always seen at the edge of a window and effects a lot of older cars on the windscreen. There is no fix for it, replacement is the only cure. If you catch it quick you can stop it spreading out by sealing the edge of the window (if you can get access)

I wouldn't have thought that a replacement side window would be cheap as it is double glazed. Well, that's what the salesman told me when I looked at my LS430. I've checked all my windows and they seem ok. To me on the other thread it looked like the tint had gone a bit funny. Wouldn't have thought moisture could get in there but if it can get into normall double glazing, then anything is possible.

Pretty sure Haylands is correct here as I had this a little while back on mine (52 LS430)
Fortunately the car was still in warranty so glass was replaced.

I Will have to try and see if I can seal mine, it not a good design if water can cause your window to delaminate!!

My A8 had the same type of windows, and I never saw any with this kind of problem, is it common on any other other cars?
