Hi all,
Just what is going on? Knock, clunk, ping-ping,, clunk
Yes i've had it before but louder then and it needed the n/s/f upper control arms replacing due to excessive wear cost a packet but fixed it for ooohhh... a month
failed its next MOT on bushes - and i was mad but it was the lower ones this time
There is still a knocking noise but only when turning and/or braking
Does anybody know what else this could be? Its hard to tell what side it comes from and it only usually happens when slowly turning sharply or braking when parking etc - it doesn't do it when turning into a side street at higher speeds etc , just slow turning/braking (usually together)
cant feel anything back thro' brake pedal either
I dunno - does anyone?

If you are brakeing slowly and turning it could well be the brake pads moving in the calliper...kinda like a clunking noise and only happens when you are driving slowly.?..been quite a few threads on here about it ....my is200 does it occasionly as the pads are low and need doing so are a little slack in the callpier

I wish it was but i looked at all pads last week and they are well over half and look like they scraping the disc, they not loose anyway
the sound is like 2 or 3 metal things catching each other but it looks all ok and no marks when i have a look
Hows the is200? (thinking fuel mate, its nearly 90quid to fill this beast up nowadays and i cant see the price falling....) I love the car, ins is v.cheap less that £300, and its fairly cheap to fix thro' this site too but its pressing my pocket weekly. Bargain at £1000 3 years ago, Engine is mint, just all the wear & tear things now its nearly 16

My IS200 is costing alot..reallty love the car but getting to the point that soon wont afford to run her. cry.gif

How about Ball joint when you turn the wheel almost or on full lock does it still do it?........this can make the noise.when theya re nakerd

mate, you're gonna have to get your suspension inspected from top to bottom. the LS400 is a very heavy car, and at 100k+ miles, the suspension WILL require a complete overhaul at some point costing around..I know, because I had the same problems with my LS400..

Alright Maneesh
yeah im not looking forward to the bill if it is. I already had upper and lower arms replaced on passenger side. Uppers were a fortune so hope its not the other one. The guy who did it said u had to replace the pair (opposite pairs not n/s or o/s) - well that was 2 years ago and since i been working on it myself this year, i noticed only 1 upper arm was replaced censored.gif .
Can't get bushes if they too much gone i was told
Don't trust any garage now - cost me loads
Top car tho' and top forum here too
see u around man
ROYT

Refer back to post by Dazz, the pad movement is not side to side but rear to front.
I.E pad sliding forward when braking.....

Thanks Royt (and daz),
Yeah thanks for straightening that out - i did wonder how pads could be loose and still stop the car - I'll check it doesnt do it all the time and i noticed last night it makes noises when i've just stopped and let the brake go to move off again - wheels were straight at that time so hope its the pads and not ball-joints
Cheers

Normally the pads ratting are caused by the caliper sliding pins wearing and allowing some minor movement.
Mine do it on my IS200 and I have bought replacement pins and rubber pin bushings etc, about £30 in total.

I've just looked under Lexus workshop posts and there is good article on there by iceman about his GS. Sounds as if it may be the same problem. Hope so as it isn't too expensive.
