Full Version: Central Locking Problem

A couple of weeks ago the central locking on the front passenger side failed and I diagnosed that as the power and correct signals were reaching the unit it had to be the motor.
So today the door lock assy was completely removed and stripped down ( no mean feat) and the motor in the unit was partially seized ( tested by puuting a 9 volt battery across the terminals). I then sprayed some servisol switch cleaner in the motor and that finished it off altogether.
Anyway reassembled the thing and refitted it back to as it was before and have made some enquiries on ebay for a replacement.
If there is anyone on here with a spare or breaking a car please let me know.
Also am I just unlucky or has this problem occured before with the locks?

I've just thought ( yes OK it's getting harder at my age!) is the series 2 and series 3 door lock the same?
I would assume so even though there are differences in other areas.
Could someone with a series 3 just have a look at the link below which is for a series 2 and check if the series 3 has basically the same components i.e internal door opener lever and internal door lock buttons in the same place.
The reason I ask is that there are 2 series 3 LS's on ebay being broken and I don't want to buy one to find it won't fit.
Cheers,
Steve

Firstly may I thank Benfur for all the help he has provided in removing and posting me the door lock assy.
To update the lock arrived today and guess what the series 3 is different both wiring loom wise and the lever rods to the exterior door handle and lock ( or it could be due to mine being a Celsior)
But I successfully stripped down both locks and transfered the motor from the donor unit to mine, reassembled, refitted and it is a complete repair.
I am in the process of compiling a slideshow of the proceedure.
