Full Version: Car Stalling When I Press The Throttle
Lexus Owners Club > Lexus Models > Lexus IS200 / Lexus IS300 / SPORTCROSS > Engine & Transmission
Steve_D
Hi folks,

Just jumped in my car after a days work & it wouldnt start for me first time, tried again & it was a bit lumpy running, pressed the throttle & it died, it keeps doing this now cry.gif

I managed to get the car under some cover to have a look under the bonnet since its raining outside!!, without the engine running I can hear a small constant buzzing noise from the throttle body, when I manually turn the throttle spindle part the noise gets louder icon14.gif , I tried to disconnect teh supercharger cable but it doesnt make any difference.

Only thing out of the ordinary recently was I noticed that the stainless sleeve for the TTE airbox had went inside the airbox when i tightened the hose clip, the engine had been sucking in un-filtered air for about a week before i noticed ohmy.gif

Anyone any ideas whats wrong, anything i can do?

Thanks,
Steve D

Now noticed that I have two fault codes on the Scangauge - P0105, which according to the help section is Manifold Absolute Pressure/Barometric Pressure Circuit Malfunction

Was your supercharger brand new or second hand? If second hand was the Piggy back ECU installed? I'm sure its you're piggy back ECU thats failing. I had it happen to me. Fortunately I had a brand new one spare.

Contact TTE and they will send you one out f.o.c

Hope this helps

TTE dont send out new one's anymore mate, thay have run out of them ohmy.gif

Re your problem, is the cable fitted correct ? sometimes when not fitted correct, it can duff the motor in the throttle body ohmy.gif
sparkystav
Sounds like the Black box to me, the throttle always makes that noise, ive figured out, strange how you never notice it till theres a problem though lol.

But yeah definetely the black box, could just be a loose connection.
Steve_D
Thanks guys, I'm pretty sure its wired correctly & it is all second hand - I guess it is the black box then, strange as well because after toying with the throttle body it actually started to work again (maybe just a coincidence), took it for a run & it was fine, didnt want to risk it though & left the car at work just in case dry.gif
Steve_D
Ok, so next question is what do i do now! - If i cant get a hold of one of these black ECU boxes that is rolleyes.gif

Steve_D
Is that one of the things that needs to be mapped, would i need to take it to a specialist?

no mate it basicly does the same thing other members with the s/c have it
Steve_D

thats the one msn-wink.gif
Steve_D
Cheers mate, thats that sorted tongue.gif
Steve_D
Car will be out of order for a few days at least - can anyone kindly advise how to wire it up smile.gif
sparkystav
You need to make sure you get the STD version.

Heres the wiring:

Black box at the bottom, and FCD at the top

Steve_D
Thanks Stav, i've sent an enquiry to the seller. The HKS FCD appears to have similar wire colours to the TTE box, got to be honest i dont understand the upper wiring diagram, the bottom one is fine because it has pin numbers
Tom-18
Im thinking of getting one of these too, hopefully will be fitting my kit in the next two weeks smile.gif My only concern is where to connect the cables from the HKS to as it has no pin numbers?? Is there a diagram of the EXCU with what the numbers are allocated to??

Tom.
Steve_D
Just what i'm after Tom tongue.gif, it really seems like its best not to reply on that black TTE box at all!
sparkystav
I'll sort something out for you two tomorrow lads.

Red Black box Wire: E2 16 Black Red
Black Wire E6 21 White Black

Cut wire: E5 9 Green Red

With the Green wire from the black box going to the ECU side, and Yellow wire to the other side.

Starting from the front of the car, the connectors are E2, E3, (E4 only on auto), E5, E6.

For the HKS FCD, the black and red wires are the same, but the Yellow wire going to the ECU side, and the White wire going to the car side. On Setting 10.

Cheers Stav!

When i finally get time off work and come to a meet i think i owe you a beer biggrin.gif

Will deff pay alot of attention to the LOC stand biggrin.gif and hoping to have my charger kit on before!
Just hope my car doesnt get broken into like last year! wallet, mobile, satnav, CDholder! the bloody lot! and only went to see where my mate had parked! 5mins i was away from the car!!

Thanks for the details Stav, just back from a wedding in Birmingham & came back to this smile.gif the Ebay seller sent me an e-mail saying that the part would have been 2-3 weeks from Japan & he would send a refund grrrrrrrrrr, bought another one online (not e-bay lol)

For now I removed the TTE black box, removed the supercharger belt & running it NA for a bit until i get the FCD tongue.gif
sparkystav
Instead of removing the belt you can just unclip the throttle wire so its always bypassing. Means you keep the sound, if not the speed wink.gif
yemgi
You can run with the supercharger without the TTE box, just don't go too high in the revs. I ran 1 month without it and never had any problem. That's what TTE told me to do as they did want to send me a new one.
84Stoney
Must have missed this thread somehow!

I have had this problem....twice now!

Stav seems to have sorted ya out though!

Don't bother un-hooking it. Runs fine just without the box. Just take it easy or it will fuel cut!

Stav, just getting around to this today smile.gif regarding the red wire, is that supposed to go to E2 pin 8?, thats whats on the standard TTE ECU drawing.

Cheers,
Steve.

if the mechanical cable from the throttle body to the bypass is to tight(no slack) or tight to move it can put undue stress on the motor in the throttle body and throw a fault, maybe lubricate the cable sleeve and see if it is slack enough
Steve_D
Earlier on in this topic I mentioned a noise from the throttle body area, I managed to get a video of it can someone please help diagnose whether this noise is normal or not?, turn up your speakers & hopefully the you tube video works smile.gif

Please wait a few seconds for Video to Load!
sparkystav
As far as i know, thats normal mate, its the throttle control.

Stav
Steve_D
You were 100% right Stav, moved the throttle about on another IS200 & it sounds just the same smile.gif phew.

Car is running sweet now with the HKS FCD, found setting 9 to work better for some reason, 10 seemed a bit low in power.
