Hi,

Got my reminder yesterday for my road tax (£185 12 months pre-2001 IS200). Question is when can I apply for my road tax? My current tax runs out on the 31/08/08, so I need the new one to start from 01/09/08, but I noticed on the form it says not to apply for the new road tax 5 days before the old one runs out, I thought you could apply 14 days before the old tax runs out or has this now changed?

I am going to be away (off to Rhodes for 2 weeks) next week so I don't want to get caught out.

Thanks for your advise.

You can apply for it earlier than 5 days.
My wife has a mobility scheme vehicle and she receives the "new" tax disc 4 weeks before it is due.

Thats what I have always thought.

Or rather, from the 15th of the month in which it is due to expire.

According to DVLA Website from 15th of month of expiry online or by phone and 2 months at a Post Office or DVLA office.

The above is correct BUT ONLY if applying at a Post Office which deals with "advance applications" or a local DVLA centre if you can find either. You cannot just go to any Post Office which offers road tax renewals.
