hi folks!

my girlfriends front drivers side tyre is losing roughly 10 to 15 psi a day.
basically we are selling her astra and all tyres needed replacing which we did. within the first week she noticed it was looking flat, so back to the tyre shop but it was closed (sunday) so we went to another garage which could not find a leak. i asked them to re-seal and put a new valve which was done.
one day later and 10psi down we headed back to the original tyre shop. they replaced the tyre at no charge and we were on our way....

i've just had a call that its almost totally flat, so i've asked her to whack the spare on (she's out on a church trip, im not that mean making her do it on her own)

so looks like its back to the tyre shop.....

what on earth could it be? the wheel cant be buckled as it wouldnt pass balancing would it? i've never had this problem before...

Is it a steel rim or alloy ??

its an alloy, i've asked on another forum and they reckon the wheel has gone porous.

quick search on ebay shows 4 stud alloy but i need 5 sad.gif

What you need to do is get the tyre removed from the rim and check the condition of the rim where the tyre seals , being alloy the soap that is used when fitting tyres leaves all types of metal really open to corrosion it seems to accelerate the process , if this soap gets under the lacquer on an alloy it will lift it and cause a bead leak , sometimes these leaks are hard to find as they remove the wheel from the vehicle and thus the weight is off the tyre and it does not leak or it leaks very very slowly , then its put back on the car and the weight makes it leak faster . So if I was in your shoes I'd get someone to remove the tyre and take it away and wire brush it and wet and dry sand it coat the mating surface with a liquid rubber ( they should have this at the tyre depot , especially if its a commercial depot as well , try A.T.S.'s I know they have it , its called bead seal) then get them to remount the trye and balance it , that should see this problem solved mate .

Paul.

thanks for that Paul.

You are welcome Sir , might save you a few quid especially if you know a tyre fitter.

Oh I forgot , when they rebalance it ask if they can use stick on weights and not the knock on ones , they can cause bead leaks on allys too .
Regards.
