Full Version: Overheating,advice Needed Asap

hello everyone,

i need some advive asap please,recently i was parked up with the engine on for about 20 mins,when i noticed steam coming from the engine bay and the temp gauge was in the red,but i still had water in the rad and coolant resovoir.i have noticed the fans werent coming on.
i took it to my local mechanic and he said the problem is with the fans,but he doesnt know what or where the electrical component,relay,fuse,etc is that needs to be changed,im taking it back tomorrow morning so any advice for him would help as i need it fixed asap,espcially where the thing is he needs to change,many thanks in advance msn-wink.gif

thanks for your help but that looks technical to me,i was hoping for maybe a verbal diagnosis,or advicve that i could just tell him,once again thanks!

your mechanic is **** if he doesn't know how the fans work.

99% of all radiator mounted fans are controlled by the sensor which screws into the radiator, any half witted DIY mechanic would know that.

also your mechanic pal would know that all he/she needs to do is earth the plug and the fans will run all the time the ignition is on.

a new sensor can be got for a few ££, and takes 5 mins to swap

Surely a bit of investigation yourself into the wiring diagrams would get you your answer?

Also if you just take the covers off the fuse and relay boxes under the bonnet you'll see the diagrams on the back that show you which each one is. I would of thought a decent mechanic would have done that.

But seen as i have looked, it could be the coolant temp switch

got it fixed the next morning,it was a plug/sensor on the bottom of the radiator,only cost me £20,main thing is that i didnt fry the engine,thanks for the advice tho;)
