Full Version: How To Unlock Car With Flat Battery

Hello all,
Upon returning from three weeks away, I now find my LS430 locked (double locked) with a flat battery.
It is a 2001 LS430 with the smart key. I double locked it before I left and parked it front facing touching a wall. Left side and front of car is not accessible.
The car will not unlock by touching the handle as usual. It will not unlock using the button on the key.
When I fold out the metal key, it only goes half-ways in to the key hole on the drivers door and will not turn. The drivers door is the only door with a key hole.
The key fits into the key hole on the boot door and opens it, but access to the boot is useless, as my model has the 'air purifier' hence no access to the main cabin from the boot.

HELP.... How can I get the key to open the door, so I can open to the bonnet and jump the car?

Hi RAC joe here as you may have worked it out I was an RAC man for 16 years around south manchester, this is what to do, open boot, find boot light, pulll it out as to see the bulb and wire,s find the live, helps if you have a meter but it is the one that feeds the middle of the bulb, ok now with set of jump leads and a fuse, any fuse, about 10 amps with 2 people , connect the neg jump lead to the earth of the car, a good clean earth, like boot catch on body not on boot, and with the live jump lead connect to a fuse and with the other end of the fuse tutch it to the live feed wire for the boot light, now press the remote and the doors should open ok then you can open the bonnet, remeber to put neg earth lead on last under the bonnet when you jump start and leave it running for 20 mins before you take off th jump leads, you can turn off the other car when the lexus has started but leave the leads on for a while to let the car push against a battery with some voltage , ok have fun JOE

remember that if it wont open the doors, you willl have less than 7 volts in your battery, it will take near 3 days off 1 hr runs to charge it but 3 30 min runs will do to get you over the overnight parking time it will stand till you run it again, remeber the cars alternator is not made to charge a battery from flat, so it will take a bit of time to bring it back to full charge, ok JOE

This is a fantastic tip - thanks!

I think it should be pinned to the top of this forum for reference.

THANK YOU very much indeed. Worked like a treat. Printed out your instructions, did the job in the rain, except with a battery-pack jump starter rather than a car.
Took the car for a good spin up the motorway and back and will do the at least two or three hours tomorrow and the next day too.
U DA MAN!
