well done Dave.

did this myself about 5 years ago - best move I ever made.

does take a cast iron set though doesn't it - its a big decision.

where about are you based?
DaveEllen
Cheers Matt!

I'm based in London (SE)

Have got 2 days working at LB Lambeth for 3/6 months initially (However I've been there since june 01 also for for 6 months :whistling: )

An agency have got me as many training days as I want plus the prospect of a 6 month contract at another authority :backofnet:

Would like to get my own work to cut out the middleman but I'm sure once I get settled that will come............

Have got some ideas which GCHQ agents company will hopefully be involved in shortly........

Not bad as I only resigned at 9.30 today :yahoo: :yahoo: !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good on you Dave, wish you all the best...

I used to be my own Boss and I miss those days but I got frightened off with IR35. I console myself with having paid days off and the state of the contracting market.

If you're good though you won't have any problems finding work, I've been interviewing contractors for general IT support stuff and 80% of them haven't even lasted 10 minutes in the interview before I've sent them on their way because they obviously don't have the skills as presented in their CVs.

For example - did you know that a VPN means you can sit on the beach and access computers all over the world without having to log on to the internet ??????

Or perhaps, you would use a router for situations where you have lots of servers and if one fails the router will take over and pass the data onto a server that is still working ??????

Unfortunately that is the state of some of the supposedly "experienced " contractors out there - so you should have a head start on the competition. B) B) B)

Go for it :D

Nice one Dave - all the best Mate!

Cheers peeps.......

One thing I will miss is moaning about the boss !!

Hopefully I will maintain my integrity and continue to be able to say in answer to a ? "never done that before but I'll have a good go !"

The firm I've just left wanted me to extract & analyse data from a system I'd never used before....I said I'd have a go but to tell the customer I'd never worked on their system up front and offer them my time for free if I failed..........my ex firm would not do that as they wanted me to bluff it........honest dave refused :whistling:

Honesty always pays (he hopes)
