Hi,
The water pump is driven by the cam belt so this means removing the cambelt to fit the pump plus the strip down is the same to get to the water pump.
It is best to replace both the belt and pump at the same time to avoid 2 major projects instead of one.

If you're going that far then do everything in that area while in there. All day job if not done before. Can't remember how much I paied for the water pump from a auto parts place in UK, But it was around £35. There's a thread of mine stating LS400's servicing costs which listed the prices and where I got the parts from somewhere on this forum.
