Many words in the English language end in "gry"
for example
"gry" = very small distance (About 1 tenth of an inch)
or
"aggry" = type of prehistoric bead

Grim - this one has done my head in.
When you say it makes sense once punctuated, does that mean you add your own quotes and commas - not just use the sentence "as is"?
GRiM

You can use any punctuation marks you want:- quotes, commas, full stops question marks, exclamation marks etc.....
" ' ! ? , .
The order of the words stays the same.

"HAD" must be the name of a person -
Smith, where Jones had had "had", had had "had had". "had had" had had the
examiner's approval.
?

Spot on young Geoffers, your sentence makes sense.
However, Had is not the name of a person.
You've worked out that, cadidate Smith answers the question with, "had had.", where Jones answers with "had". The correct answer was "had."
However, the examiner originally marked this wrong, then changed his mind.
So, put THAT into a sentence and you get the answer........
Smith, where Jones, had had "had", had had "had had". "Had had" had had the examiner's approval.
