hi for some strange reason iv got some spare cash burning a hole in my pocket and am considering putting a altezza beams motor in myis200 sport
just want to find out hot much work and money will be involved?
Rob's Lexx
IMHO, not worth it mate.
Parthiban
Can't see the point of the transplant mate as you can just swap your IS for an Altezza - much easier and cheaper.

If you want to do a transplant, makes more sense to drop in the Supra engine or similar as others are doing :)
Fargo
or buy an IS300
kris_t
is300s are all auto and like my manual
was thinking it would be a easy job
and altezza are to basic
my be super charger then but herd lots of horror stories
Rob
what horror stories????
kris_t
loosing power destroying engines
Matt Hillyard
Super charger is the way to go and even after the charger is fitted theres still loads of room under the bonnet.
kris_t
i realy need to be taken out is a is200 with a charger went in altezza beams and was very impressed compared to my is
Rob's Lexx
i'm going to try and organise a midlands meet soonish so get down to that. i'll take you for a spin in my charged IS if you like? trust me mate, you'll want one after u've beenin one!! :whistling:
kris_t
sounds good keep me informed

This is what i'm afraid of :P, let me know about the midlands meet as I'm interested :D and wouldn't mind a ride in a charged 200 :D
kris_t
im sure if we get a few of us together we could get a gr8 deal on super charger conversions in bulk

i spoke with tte a few months ago about a deal for there last 4 tte compressor kits and all they were willing to do was knock off a few euros off the 6.385,94 Euro price
Rob's Lexx
just started a thread on a midlands meet.

regarding the 'bulk buy on a supercharger', you wont get that deal on a TTE setup mate!! their as rare as hen's teeth. maybe on a rotrex s/c but they are VERY pricey IIRC.

The odd TTE s/c comes up for sale now and then, but they generally sell within a couple of days!!
kris_t
worth a try lol
sparkystav
seriously who told you about engines blowing up and losing power with the S/C's?

what a load of rubbish, the standard TTE is spot on.

Very little chance of failure, very little.

It was designed but TOYOTA tuning europe to be very reliable.
kris_t
ok what sort of price would a tte charger conversion cost?
Rabster
Well the average price on a SC is about 2k second hand im sure you cant get the TTE one new now but i may be wrong if you get hold of one you will be joining the elite team lol as they are becoming very rare i think there are a few up for grabs on here if you quick anf have the cash to hand etc
kris_t
ok and what about total cost including instalation and other parts?
sparkystav
Nothing,

We fitted one to Tom-18's car in a field at JAE.

All the parts you need come with the kit.

If you can get to a big LOC meet, i expect it can be fitted! Basic tools only required.

Failing that, any good mechanic should be able to do it in around 5 hours i would have thought.
kris_t
well iv got to say the people on this site are gr8 thank you
just got to find tte charder then were away

If you have £2k plus waiting, there should be one to be found. Well worth it mate!

IMHO, it makes the car as quick as it should have been in the first place!

Mite be interested just so i can then get hold of a belt, and the pipes to sell it as a kit again?
Or if i get another lex instead of a new Audi A4 like my dad keeps suggesting!!
I can put the charger on again :D :D will find out in the week as insurance are draggin there feet a bit!

Tom.

I imagined that a supercharger installation would be hellishly complicated. I would never have believed that you could fit it in a field in a few hours at a car show if I hadn't seen it for myself !

Kris, I'm a real dummy when it comes to working on mechanical stuff on cars, but I reckon that even I could do a lot of that supercharger install myself. With some help from the great LOC people here I'm sure you could do it too. Or any decent mechanic would have no problem. The kit looks like it's been designed as an easy aftermarket bolt-on.
kris_t
well ill give it a go
can any body give me a quick run down of wos involved
will the car need ecu remap?
will it cause any warning lights to come on on the dash ?
how will it effect emissions for mot?

you get all instructions in the kit mate, and a mini kind of ecu thing which just connects to the standard ecu.
apart from that its all plain sailing well should be :winky:
kris_t
ok and what sort of power increase will i get
aaronabbott
ok and what sort of power increase will i get
i think it takes it to 202bhp but dont quote me

If you can't get hold of a supercharger, then why don't you buy an Altezza RS200 and spec it to an IS200 (interior etc). Do a search for Mr Singh's Altezza- he bought an Altezza and spec'd it as an IS200- man that was one beautiful car.

Doesnt effect the emissions, it recommended you remove the precats from the exhaust manifold as sometimes they break up and get blown down your exhaust. but its not essential.

No warning lights will come on, and you cant remap the standard ECU, but you get a little black chip what has four wires.

One for power, one to earth, then the other two go inbetween your airflow input wire from your MAP sensor, It just fools the main ecu into thinking theres less air than there actually is at full boost to stop the car hitting the fuel cut.

complete load of bullshi.... there has been 1 or 2 cases when an engine went pop but cause wasnt really ceertain, there have been other cases by a "tuner" when the piston made an appearance outside the block but they kit was ****** bout with and said mapping from said "tuner" has caused problems on lots of other cars not just the IS.

If you leave the kit as is then dont expect any probs except maybe the piggy back ecu dying but just replace it with a HKS FCD for under £100.

Back to the original posting, when people refer to the BEAMS engine, is this the 3S-GE 2.0 4-cylinder engine with 207 bhp (thanks Wikipedia ! :D ) ?

yup :winky:
Dan_Harris
Correct Steve, not 100% but I think not all 3S-GE's were BEAMS (maybe someone can clraify?).
Steviewevie
Thanks :)

According to Wiki (although Wiki is sometimes wrong) it was the 4th gen 3S-GE that was known as BEAMS.

On a related note, also found the BEAMS Owners Group
Parthiban
Random question, but what does the BEAMS actually mean/stand for? I know it was Yamaha that tuned the engine, but does BEAMS actually mean anything?

Breakthrough Engine with Advanced Mechanism System, according to Wiki.
