What's going on with the price of second hand IS200's?

I'm afraid your going to experience problems with a 2001+ model as they are a lot higher tax mate :). most people looking for a Is200 want a low mileage 2000 or 99 model :). I bought mine 2months ago for 5,800 but it's a 2000 so low tax and it only had 60k miles on the clock with full service history and all the mods listed below.

Sickening as this is, I've part exed my 2005/05 S auto for £5100. Granted it's the base model, got a few scuffs and has 4 owners but it's nauseating. I've had it for sale privately for £6500 for months - no one wants to know. In the end I'm just glad to get something for it because a lot of garages have said they won't accept it as part exchange.

Second hand prices of any 2001-2005 cars with Co2 over 225g/km have been decimated by this ridiculous road tax change which penalises people for cars they've already bought, by taxing then £415 then £430 a year.

I risked it buying my 2004 model, thinking they've got to come to their senses or be booted out of office but I may yet be proved wrong

Pre-budget speech for the 2009 budget is in November, but personally I don't think there's been enough complaining about the road tax to make them listen properly. I've done my bit and written numerous letters...

Only reason we are keeping hold of ours is because its registered 2001 Jan 31. Its a big hike for some ppl in road tax.

...I too unfortunately have a 2001 "Y" Plate IS 200 SE - registered on March 1st! - So the new tax increases apply to my car.
I agree its absolutely terrible the way the price of road fund licence has increased, and although I have thought about trading mine in for something else, it hardly seems worth it as I'm really not going to gain very much back.
Over the last two years of ownership, aside from maintenance items its been really reliable and I guess I have saved potentially on additional repair bills I guess the way I see it is an extra £200 across 12 months, I could make savings on maybe not driving to certain destinations and make savings on other costs such as shopping around for a better insurance quotes...

The other thing that I was thinking about is surely there must be cars out there that are around £400 on a 2001, that are in the higher tax band - which must mean that the cost of tax equates to the same cost of the vehicle -surely that's economically not viable?? A sensible solution should be to apply to take in to consideration the value of the car in its road fund licence calculation....

Enough of me ranting (apologies!!)

I've been trying to sell mine but haven't had any luck, I stuck it on Autotrader and only received a couple of calls. It's the cheapest 2001 model by far and in London.

Dropped price by £500 but still no takers :crybaby: :crybaby: :crybaby:

Anyone experienced similiar problems?[/quote]
Hiya mate,

I'm new to the club, But having just recently invested in a is200 sport,I did my maths before i bought mine as i knew that models after 2000 were going to be affected by the new tax band.
I was offered a is200 on a 2002 plate for an extra 500 pounds(mine's on a v reg) but i thought i should give it a miss.
Wise choice??? me thinks.... :shutit:

The problem with the effect of the huge road tax difference is that buyers are suspitious that the differential may increase over the years. Maybe £200 in 2010, £400in 2011, £800 in 2012 etc. So just doing a simple calculation based on current differences maybe optimistic.

Current government thinking is not based on fairness. I think, if you buy a new car with a high CO2 after a tax change then you will suffer, that's fair. If you buy a used car with a high CO2 before a tax change then you will suffer, that's unfair.

HOW QUIET HAVE THE GREENS GONE SINCE THE CONSEQUENCES OF THEIR CAMPAIGNING HAVE HIT HOME.
