hi all, after having my lexus is200 sport serviced it was suggested that maybe i should steam clean the engine although its only dusty not oily etc is this a wise thing to do and if so what precautions should be taken, otherwise ill simply clean it by hand, thanks in advance

i also agree. if its only dust just use a damp cloth or cleaning wipes then use detail products to shine any trim smile.gif

I use spray tyre foam on mine matey and then wipe it over,

Does a good job and not expensive as some of the guys who went to JAE saw this year, when i was cleaning there engines for them biggrin.gif

If you spray it on a warm engine and wipe of the residue after a few minutes it will dry to a nice shine and remove quite a bit of the dirt smile.gif

I'd never have an engine steam cleaned. There's too much that could go wrong. Unless it's a show car, I think I'd be very hesitant about deep cleaning anything in the engine - a quick once over with a damp cloth and some foam spray will probably suffice. Also buyers are always advised to be suspicious of overly clean engines - worth considering if you're planning to sell the car.
