During a short trip this morning to get fuel and a bit of shopping I was charging the battery pack for a remote control plane using the socket in the boot. When I stopped at the garage the radio and sat nav screen stayed on, even with the ignition key removed. This happened again when I got to the shops. Once I took the charger out when I got home everything went off as it should. I just wondered should I worry or is it just one of those things?
I have used the charger once before with no problem and use the socket all the time for DVD player, charging iPods, DS etc with no problems.
This ever happen to anyone else?

Looks like the diode has gone in the charger, allowing the power back into your system.

I wouldn't use this until you have it repaired or just put another diode inline with it to stop the reverse emf. Your security system won't be active with power on these lines when you leave the car and this plugged in.

You can buy diodes at maplin very cheaply. Just look at the power of the charger and buy the correct power diode. Once you have it, the guys at Maplin will show you how to wire it into the positive line or we can show you if you want to do it yourself.

Erm thanks but I have no idea what a diode is! blush.gif I just never got physics or electronics at school. But what it sounds like is that the charger is b*ggered after only using it twice. Also explain why my plane (well is a plane/boat/ski thing) was really wimpy and quite pathetic when I took it to the park today.

IIRC a diode lets current pass one direction but not the other.
