Hi Guys.

The battery on the SC 430 went yesterday so i thought with winter upon us i would treat the SC to a new one.
Rang round for various prices and was quoted between £70 and £120 for a new one. Rang lexus sheffield who quoted just over £80 including VAT so i thought good price and keeps original parts on the car which i like to do. Spoke to a very nice chap in parts who said he would check with service if they could fit it whilst i popped in today. Said there may be a small charge for fitting which was ok by me. He did ask if i took the car there regular and hinted that if i did the service guys would most prob fit it for free for me. I explained that i had not took the car there before as i had not had it long but was looking for a dealership to take care of the car regarding servicing etc. He said he would call me back. I set off out to sheffield and still no call back but went to the dealer anyway as i needed the battery. Got to the dealers and went to reception and explained the above. The guy got the parts guy on the phone who wanted to speak to me. He then went on to tell me i could get it fitted but would have to pay a charge. Ok i thought so asked how much. He told me that lexus quote .3 of a hour at a charge of just over £31 plus VAT. i was a little taken aback that a further £35 was going to be charged for a 10 min job max.I declined the fitting and still bought the battery.
He did offer to lift it into the boot of the Sc for me and whilst he was a polite and nice person who partly agreeded it would be good service to fit foc he said it was out of his hands which i do understand.
I thought Lexus customer service was second to none but it seems fitting a £80 battery to a £56000 car is not quiet included unless the car visits them on a reg basis. As i said earlier i am looking for a dealer to service and look after my car when it next requires to go back into the dealer network however after today i am not sure Lexus Sheffield will get my buisness. Even Halfords would fit their battery for free. I guess i thought Lexus would too only to find that was not the case. Did i expect too much?

the guys at sheffield are usually spot on, never dealt with parts but gary and chris on service department are spot on dont forget if you are a gold member you get a discount,
i had a flat tyre once took it in and got it done for free whilst they were carrying out some other repairs

oh come off it

i expect they are just as confused as to why someone in a 56k motor(as you state) wont stump up a 35 quid labour charge...that coffee and the little mint choc has to be paid for some how

You also now have a trip to the tip to get shot of an old battery whistling.gif

sorry its not clear in your post. Dont worry you will end up paying for someone elses coffee and mint at whatever dealership you pick...its a fact of life. Im so worried about my next service I am getting the car checked before hand so I can have assurance that i wont be paying for the next years polishing of their marble floors and skyscraper type windows. Particular attention being paid to discs and pads, as thats where the easy money appears to be .
