I m thinkin about upgrading my front brakes, think a set of supra calipers are the leaders just now, from what i ve read they seem to be a pretty easy to fit.

Now few questions, is there much of a difference?

Also is it worth upgrading the brake lines and the master cylinder also?

Master cylinder i dont see the point, but stainless brake lines to start with.

I upgraded to dot 5.1 fluid as well.

But yeah the supra upgrade isnt too hard, though you'll prob need spacers on your front wheels.

Did you notice a big difference?

Also sorry to be a pain but do you know what the clearence difference was?

Brake lines are good.

I myself think the supra upgrade is a waste of time as the caliper size increase is marginal. They are also heavy like the IS2 ones.........

Aftermarket are alloy so lighter and enable much larger rotors to be used.

reducing unsprung weight is a "cheap" way of getting extra bhp

The disks i've got are 330mm standard are 296mm i believe.

and they are a much bigger caliper, and 4 pot rather than the two pot slider as standard. And yes they're not light but you can do the conversion for ~£400 all done, and its at least £1k for a lightweight big brake kit, you can spend that £600 on other power upgrades wink.gif

if you ask me there is no point in upgrading unless you have about 350+ BHP as the IS brakes are the same as the ones fitted to most LS400 and with the LS400 being alot biger car, so the brakes are OTT any way for a car the size of the IS , all i would do is get better discs, "ie" DBA's or brembo.

I have Stainless Hoses & Mintex Pads all round (all fitted at the same time),
it's either the hoses, the pads, or a combination of the two.... but I'm loving it biggrin.gif

As said, with decent pads the 2-piston calipers will stop bigger, faster cars than the IS (GS, Aristo, Soarer, Supra...), BUT......

Supra calipers look better, and get rid of those @*%:£! sliders smile.gif

Will the alloy 4-piston calipers off the LS (UCF20) fit the IS? They are the same mounting as the Supra calipers, but the shape means that they won't fit the Aristo/GS, for example, without additional work.

am i right in saying that teh is200 front brakes are the same as 1 of the supra models? maybe older model???
Dan_Harris
don't quote me but i think the discs are slightly larger on the supra and also the calipers are different but i know you can fit them to a IS smile.gif

J Spec Supra's may well be the same caliper and discs, but UK spec ones are different.

You could just get some dixcel discs and pads keeping your standard calipers and you'll have an amazing braking upgrade smile.gif

Might be able to offer a cheaper bbk soon but its all shutup.gif at the moment wink.gif
