If replacing the original head unit do the small numbers above the cassete slot have to be identical?
has anybody fitted one with different numbers and had no problems?
(out of a later model car).
my car is a X plate sport-numbers 13903.
cheers all.

From what i know matey, and a few search's later, Is that the Headunits will only work if they are replaced with the identical number of the one thats being removed?

There was one person said they had fitted a top loader to an older car and it plugged straight in, however
when asked they declined to prove it, and not seen them since. In my experience they will not directly swap,
if you are a very confident user of a multi-meter, a swap may be posible, but personally I think it is hardly
worth it effort wise.
Better to by a more reliable aftermarket Head Unit (& bypass cable from E-Bay if your car is an SE or Sport),
and the replacement single or double DIN facia, and you will have less problems IMO as there is no guarantee
one you buy secondhand, will work next week. At least with a new aftermarket Head Unit, you will get a full
years guarantee.
