Lexus Owners Club > Lexus Models > Lexus IS200 / Lexus IS300 / SPORTCROSS > Supercharging & Turbo Modifications

Hi folks ,

I have been surfing the site for a while now with a view to learning a bit about the IS200 and am looking to buy in near future. I am liking the sound of a supercharged is200 and wonder if anyone knows anything about this one on ebay

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1999-LEXUS-IS200-SPO...A1%7C240%3A1318

It is a bit far away from me to go for an inspection trip - so hoping that some of you might know the car or is the seller a member on here ??

Any help appreciated and any general comments re buying a charged one welcome .

Cheers

Kev

Don't go for that one as a club member has test driven it and it is a worn out car by all accounts.
The Superchagers tend to run forever but that one didn't pull anywhere near as good as it should,
it has been for sale for quite a while now also.

Don't get me wrong, a Supercharged IS200 is fantastic, I drive one myself, but I would go careful
with that car as it seemed 'very tired' in performance & condition.

Keep looking on here as they come up for sale every now and again, and at least you have a good
chance of knowing a true vehicle history if it is a LOC Members car.

Thanks for quick reply. Do you know the club members name that test drove and I can PM them to get more details but from what you have said enough to put me off the long trip. Is Bazzas red one still on the market?

Yeh think Bazza's Is200 s/c is still for sale? Now that is a nice motor and worth the money and the trip to see it biggrin.gif

Dont reconise the car, maybe Prolex_uk or Gord do?

Not a bad price IMHO especially as you can sell the charger seperate for £2K. so intheory your getting the car for just over £2K.
Edit: didnt know someone had tried it out, sound like one to avoid.

Def worth getting a charger though in my opinion, i love my charger, (esp with the induction kit)

though if you dont want it too loud, check he's got the standard induction cover as well. looks more OEM then as well.

Hope this helps

Gord drove it Stav, its not good bud, I feel sorry for somone who gets that charger for £2,000.
Couldn't pull the skin off custard by all accounts. The price keeps dropping too as the paintwork
ain't up to much either ohmy.gif

Now Bazza's car is the exact opposite, low mileage, and just about perfect in every respect biggrin.gif
(only drawback is I'm not a fan of beige interiors) It has some reall pukka mods and is a real stunner.
Go for it w00t.gif

EDIT don't forget you could always swap out the interior to a black one smile.gif

Not too keen on beige either and also promised my self never too buy a red car since had two in the past both of which were nearer pink than red after severe fade.. but his car does look stunning . Would need to get rid of my current car to finance that one though.

No faded paintwork on Barrie's car, been under cover in his garage all it's life I believe.

Could have been a loose belt, broken intercooler, loose connections?
Doubt it'd be the actual charger but you never know.

But thats Vauxhalls and Ford, where the red fades to pink, and also when its not looked after.
The red on the IS, if kept clean i've no doubt will last for a very long time without ever going pink.

Stav, i took the car for test drive, it was flat as anything, just like driving normal car, belts was ok, i dont think it was anything else, i was going to have the car for a mate and sell Mr Mole the charger, but as Wozza has said, i would not be able to sleep if Mr Mole had parted with lots of money and the charger been rubbish mate wacko.gif
I really do think some chargers run better than others, steve fitted one once to Necromax's car, it was flat as anything, tte changed it, and the new one was fine biggrin.gif this one is now fitted to pip's car.

One was a Honda and the other a Toyota - one of which I subsequently found out had been in a bit of a smash and therefore painted - but was done by dealers.. but theres another story.

I know what you mean about the fords /vauxhalls .
