Speak to HyperSR at Wigan, they do the bigger pulley upgrade as well, they've had some engines fine with it, and some snapping rods. Its the Luck of the draw IMHO.
The magic figure that seems to be always quoted on here is 250bhp.... Most think this is the limit for a standard engine, but my info only comes from reading threads and info from those with experience, of supercharging, but like you say, each engine will have slightly different tolerences depending on its age, abuse to date etc...
Its not the figure, its the stress on the engine. You could have 1bar of pressure and c**p fuelling and only have 200bhp but still the same pressure on the pistons so they'll snap.
But 0.5 bar pressure, decent fuelling and be putting 250-260 out and the pistons may be ok.
Or you could have 0.3 bar decent fuelling and be putting down 230bhp
