Matt, this dont fit the UK Plate surely?, is for US market right?

Sure looks like a US plate frame to me. The price is in USD also. Looks pretty good to me.

this is a 12 by 6 inch plate.

it is really designed for the US market - thats why my post says to make sure that your plate is the right size before ordering.

You can order plates to this specification if you really, really want one.


The item is here because it will fit the plates of some imports (our very own Administrator's ES300 for example) - or indeed one of our American friends (such as Gary - up there ^ ) may be interested.

motorcycle would be legal as the font on a bike plate is smaller anyway.. so you can make plates to fit.

So as long as the font is the same size as a standard UK plate I can have a plate to fit the surround and it will be legal ?
Ive seen Taxi's with a motobike sytle plate and the taxi plate side by side in the standard plate space

Halfords do a range (chrome, red, blue carbon fibre etc) similar to this.
Trouble is the surround is about 10mm wide - not very subtle. £10 each!

I don't think they would fit very well with the mounting bracket on the front bumper.

I saw a number plate surround in chrome that was quite thin (about 5mm) (flying down the M1) but haven't found them for sale yet!

because the plate frame is small you would not get Legal UK sized fonts to fit unless you have a plate like Zee with 4 letters.

Motorcycle fonts on a car are illegal.. i have them on the back of my car.. but i have no choice.. the plate is small and have to try and fit the registration in there.

So.. if you do buy one remember that they are not entirly legal

I think i read somewhere that square no plates on cars
are legal only if the car is an import ........maybe someone
who knows the law can clarify the legal side of things.

Small lettering and number plates are legal as of Jan/Feb this year on the front of an IMPORTED vehicle. The back must still abide to the usual regulations.

BTW - even my small plate would not fit the american plate frames as they are taller. They are a very unique size - so even if you cut the plate down on either side, the height of UK plates would mean there was a gap top and bottom....
