Just interested really to see if anyone has one of the TOMS 280T Altezza's on here? Also their thoughts on them, is the 280bhp at the engines peak or is it a base platform with headroom?

:)
aztecbandit1
There is a member on here with a TOMS 280T Dan, think he's based in Ireland so might be able to find him on Tezzaworld :)
Dan_Harris
yeah seen a couple on youtube with irish plates so assumed they would be over at Tezza world just seeing if anyone else has one on here :)
Bazza
hard to get into this country due to the ESVA
they insist on a standard production car, which the Toms isnt !
although the ten year ruling is over for early models
sparkystav
I would have thought it's a well tuned 3SGE engine, so would be the same as a turbo'd altezza?!
Dan_Harris
fair play yeah that's my thoughts stav it's at the upper end of it's power output before major surgery is needed, think torque-gt have a couple at the minute but at 10k can't say it's value for money.
sparkystav
no not really.

if you want more power maybe see the results of mine and yelarbs conversions as see if they're more cost effective to you?

They will be interesting to see side by side thats for sure. The Tezza doesn't have the "Lexus" appeal either.
Gord
There are 2 white one's for sale at the min on pistonheads :D
Dan_Harris
yeah i've seen mate :D both lovely examples however I cannot justify 10k on them when I could get a supra TT 6spd with less mileage for less than £10k

My thoughts were it would be easier and cheaper to get the Lexus comforts into a tezza than get the power potential into a is200
Richie_c
Yeah Bobby has the 280T in Ireland, he's a member here as well but havent seen him online in months, he seems to have disappeared

Glad I have stumbled on this post. As I have been looking at the different ways to get more power but keep the car.
Found this one on the trader.

[url="http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/www/cars/TOYOTA+ALTEZZA/Ne-2-4-5-6-7-8-27-44-49-53-61-64-67-103-133-146-236,N-240-4294954398-4294967144/advert.action?R=200836318142959&distance=16&postcode=LS16+7AY&channel=CARS&make=TOYOTA&model=ALTEZZA&min_pr=&max_pr=&max_mileage=&vehicleYearOfManufacture=1999&vehicleRegLetter=S"]http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/www/c...icleRegLetter=S[/url]

And could quite easily trade mine in for a few hundred quid and get this. And see power gains close to a S/c orr turbo. But for a fraction of the cost.

Would i be missing out on anything from the IS200??
Coz could quite easily badge it as a lexus, or de-badge it altogether??

Anyone any thoughts on this??
sparkystav
Halt leather interior, electric seats.

the fact its a Toyota not a lexus,
Steviewevie
I notice the ad doesn't say what mileage it has.

A charged IS200 has more torque than an RS200, I believe. Don't think you can really compare it with a turbo install though, which could potentially give you a lot more power/torque.

Keighley Trade Centre- I'd do a google search on them. You may be in for a shock.

I've still got the interior from mine (cloth one), so could stick that in before i trade it in, and have half leather in altezza.

I didn't think about torque, but on power front. RS200 has 210, so with exhuast and induction kit, so stick it up about 220ish.
Also thought internals on the 1G-FE were only good for 240bhp-ish?

My basic idea is BHP per £, and an RS200 would give me the most for my money.

Yeah, was just using that car as a quick example, and with it being close to where I live. :)
Asi
i would buy one with the trd kit on it. they look sweet.
Matt_S
Well, I wouldnt look twice for a Lexus as theyre just way too slow (and although the 300s are more akin powerwise to the Altezza - I want a manual!)

So Im looking at al Altezza RS200 as my next car.

Its gonna feel slow compared to my 350bhp Silvia, but I want ONE car for all seasons and I think the Altezza might be it. We'll see. Going for a spin in one next week :)
Dimitris Papamichail
Look what mikko got today from Japan!I think you must find something similar.
James S
Have found a big hole in my plan I didn't consider! OPPS!
INSURANCE! Yeah, looking at about 3-4 grand to insure it. Which is a little out my budget to be honest.
So have to go back to looking at turbo and S/chargers me thinks :)

Blimey? Are you like 12? :D

Or is 'knocking down lil old ladies' listed as one of your hobbies on Facebook?

HAHAHA! Yeah, fav passtime of mine.

Nah, i'm 25 and only got licence just before crimbo. So they hit me pretty hard on insurance. :whistling:
Paying £1200 on mine at min. Which is harsh! But will drop next year. :)
Matt_S
LOL!

Nice car then for a young'un!

Thanks, not bad for a first car. Could have just got a corsa or something like everyone else. But I just like to be different lol :whistling:
Bobski
I think you better check the cost of Insurance for going down the Turbo/SC routes too!

They arn't that bad really as long as I don't crash mine (touch wood) and get a years NCB under my belt.
Works out about the same as I am spending now.
:whistling:
robjonk
Threes another one on piston heads now.
robjonk
Opps sorry not a tom's but still a turbo.
Asi
insuring that will be high aswell
robjonk
not too bad for me got full no claims & am 37. A lot cheaper than my aristo.
Got it for the wife but took ages to esva it & so she bought something else & does not want to change. so aristo or tez can only keep one.
Dan_Harris
see i still see them as a nice car but it's likely to be at the upper end of it's power limit at 280bhp I want more headroom :D

The 280T is a very mildly tuned but expensive altezza.

There are plenty of MR2's with 500 wheel (not crank) horse around... thats with the same block and crank but with an inferior head... how much headroom do you want lol

Those MR2's with 500 BHP are the turbo ones they have 3S GTE unit a different engine to the TOMs 280..

It's the same block though! With aftermarket rods and pistons the beams 3SGE has as much potential turbocharged as any of the 3S's. You can use aftermarket forged rods from the GTE but you need really dished pistons to get the compression ratio down.

They didn't make a GTE equivalent of the beams GE but if you compare all the generations of GE and GTE the internal differences is always pistons, rods, injectors and cams.
