Is Astral black, black metalic paint?
I'm trying to decide on a colour/colours to look for on the next car, and would like a dark metalic paint. I would prefer metalic paint mainly because I think this will be more scratch resistant than the flat black I have now.
What options would be suitable on a 07 450h, but not red. I don't want it to fade to pink in a few years time.

I have a GS450h in Velvet black - which is the same as Astral, they just changed the name towards the end of '06, I ceretainly can't tell if there is any difference.
As has already been said it is a non-metallic and is probably the most difficult colour to maintain, apart from touching in stone chips. Under any strong light it shows even the lightest of surface marks. I have the car polished using Zymol wax by a professional re-finisher twice a year, and as he explained it is impossible to avoid surface scratches showing on a dark colour but non-metallic black is the worst in this respect!
Although the car looks great in black, another alternative is Nordic blue which is an unusual shade of light metallic blue, and when I bought my car was only available on the GS hybrid, although it is now an option on all the GS range.

Yep Nordic blue is an interesting colour, but to me it looks too much like lilac which is a colour I'd never personally own on a car!
I'm a big fan of blue cars (which is why mine is blue) but recently I've been disappointed that they've slowly phased out all decent blues from the range............they're either ridiculously light (like nordic or brechin slate I think) or they're seriously dark, pretty much black with a bit of blue in it (don't know the names)
Given that they used to have great colours like mine (strathcaron blue) and royal sapphire, where have all the blues gone! Plus they created the fantastic blue (ultrasonic) for the IS-F and then didn't bring it to this country! Is blue a bad seller over here?
