Hi all, I have just realised Lexus dealers do not work to a service price plan but charge as much as they like / can get away with. When I ran other makes the service price menu was the same in any of their dealers but I have just paid a staggering 40% more by going 50 miles nearer to London !

Asked for a service plan quote based on 40,000 miles per year for my 450h Hatfield quoted (after dealer contribution ) £1,380.92 plus £885 to extend the warranty, Leicester same request quoted £1,080 plus £780 warranty extension which I feel is good value to fix the price of my motoring excluding tyres, brakes & wiper blades.

Sorry for being naive but this came as a shock to me and I do like good value !

Regards Tony

You need to check very carefully what is being covered by each dealer.
For example...is the extended warranty being offered by the 2 dealers identical or is 1 the "Lexus" extended warranty and the other the dealers "own" warranty. How long is the service plan for and which services and how many are covered?
Overheads such as business rates etc are higher nearer to London and hence differing service costs.....other marques have similar price discrepancies too.
What marques have you run where service/repair prices are identical nationwide?

Thanks for your reply and yes both warranties are quoted as being underwritten by Lexus, both service contracts are for 12 months and 40,000 milesand next 3 servicesto the required standard. Whilst I understand overhead costs vary engine oil double the cost between Cambridge and Hatfield ?

The last dealer network I used was Vauxhall but maybe they also varied ?

The official price for the Lexus extended warranty for the GS series is £885 for 1 year so unless Lexus Leicester are contributing to the cost then theirs would be dealer warranty. I paid £885 to Lexus (not any dealer) for my extended warranty in May 2009 and got 15 months for the cost of 12 months. Also included 15 months full RAC cover for myself and my wife in any car and full European cover too as it is all part and parcel of the official Lexus warranty.
