popped into local L dealer today to have a moan about my rusty rear drums
said they havent heard of replacing them
said theyre all like it
then showed me the used approved cars
and shock horror ! they made mine look like new
some of them were disgusting and all less than 2 years old
a poor response !

Baz,
My GS looked the same (probably worse),
Have a look at the calliper painting workshop I did, showing rear drums, before & after.
Looks ten times better after a lick of paint. If your only doing the drum, you'll crack both in about an hour.

Bazza,you've been fobbed off matey
mine was a year old and they changed them, did'nt even have to ask?
salesman pointed out to me that they would be changed as a matter of course
under warranty, and i painted them as well with all the other bits i got thrown in.
But if your gonna paint em, as stej says, might as well do the callipers too
no good having nice wheels and grubby hubs and callipers now is it

Will see how this long Bank holiday goes...hopefully we may see the SUN!!!

calipers are waiting to be done so my theory is i will do them at same time
probably could hassle L but it means them having my baby for the day
if i got new ones i would paint them anyway
just astounds me they get like it so quick
and if i noticed the drums on their 2nd hand cars i wouldnt buy one

I was wondering abut the hubs. I just bought a used 2002 IS300 and the hubs show rust.
So I ordered some "Must For Rust" from http://www.tinmantech.com/
They claim this stuff is not toxic and will reomove rust when sprayed, wiped, or brushed on in just a few minutes. Also it's supposed to etch the metal for painting.
I'll soon find out if the claims are true. The stuff is also supposed to act as a rust preventative.
I plan to clean and paint the hubs when I get ready to paint the calipers with the G-2 brake paint.
