Hi there,
I am wondering, what is the use of the Diagnostics socket on the right side under the hood? As per the workshop manual, I think it is only available for German models of IS and may not be available for UK model. It doesn't have the common OBD layout as the plug, so I am wondering, what is the use of it?

I thought the OBD port in the IS was inside the car, under the dash in the driver's footwell?

The UK IS200 also has the diagnostic socket under the hood.

But it doesn't have the general OBD-II layout, odes it? What is it used for? Attaching some specifig Toyota/Lexus diagnostic equipment?

So what's the thing in the footwell?

This is the one that is normally used by people to connect it to the fault reader/computer and is found in each and every IS. The one under the car's hood is some kind of extra.

Does anyone have any more information on this? Also, has anyone had success in using one of the OBD2 interface units, such as available on eBay, to read error codes/messages from their IS200? These units connect to a laptop running appropriate software. If so, which unit and what software works for an IS200?

I have already ordered an unit for personal use. I have found some prievous threads here on this forum, confirming that they are able to connect to the Lexus using such devices :)
