I went to a Toyota dealership today and got price of £121 for the face plate with needles for my ES300

has anyone tried asking for a quote just for the face plate?

I thought this was rather cheap!!!

I think I have a similar problem on my car, but slightly different.
Let me tell you something:
The light of the instrument panel (so called dashboard) is problem. Summer time is okay, but early in the morning or winter season, it takes more than 10 minutes.
Is there anybody familier with this problem?
Please let me know.
Thanks.

Hi Dundee,
I don't know if you have sorted your dash lights out yet?
If not, I repaired a LS with the same problem this week, see the posting under LCD repairs.

Hi Chris,
I am very interested in this topic, can you point me to or cut and paste the LCD Repirs topic
as I could not find it, also on our LS400 the LCD on time and radio station is getting darker from the
bottom, as if the liquid cristal is flowing out, is there a repair for this? Or is it a new unit, this is the one above radio by the way not speedo, the speedo lights and fuel gauge etc. flickers on at ignition,
then goes off when starting the engine, after driving for about 10minutes it flickers back to life.
It does not seem so bad when the weather is dry in the summer, when it rains it is worse, and
the timing of when it comes back on varies, in daylight it is not so much of a problem but at
night it is not good.
Is this a ECU failure? Can it be repaired or needs replacement?

Any knowledge of this would be appreciated.

Regards,

Greywolf

Hi Chris,
I am pleased to say the repairs on the LCD and Dash Console are great and working fine. Sorry I have not managed to post before, but had a busy week!

Keep in touch and let me know if ever you are down my way, best regards to family,

Greywolf.

PS. I will try to post another message to the group in another relevant topic window.

I did some home work on this subject on a few sites and the title is misleading although very helpful,

restoring burnt out needles as opposed replacing the needles ( restoring is whats being done ) not replacing the needles unless replacing the dash console, kick me in the butt if im wrong and apologies if I am

Hi,
There is NO need to replace any of the needles, indeed more damage may be caused to a very expensive dash combination gauge (£1,900) by doing so, even if you can get hold of them!!
I have repaired/restored many needles getting them lighting up again like new (this is not the flourescent fishing rod paint trick, seen elsewhere on the web!), and have never needed to replace any, I don't even know where to get them anyway.

Chris ... can the dark needles be relighted by replacing a couple of capacitors on the instrument cluster board(s)?

Hi everyone, I just thought I ought a post a huge thankyou to Chris Vince and this Lexus Forum.

I delivered my '95 MK3 LS400 dash to Chris this afternoon, and within the hour my dim Rev counter needle was repaired and shining brightly!

It's unusual to find such a lovely bloke who's so helpful, who spent so long working out a cost effective fix for a common fault but then doesn't charge the earth to help others!

Chris was happy to remove the dash and do the whole job for the same price however it was easier for me to remove it and drop it off.

It's thanks to this forum that I heard about Chris's expertise.

Cheers Chris, top man! rolleyes.gif

A big thanks must go to chris vince for the fantastic repair that he made to my ls400 dash today, and happy to reccomend him to anyone who has the failed capacitors and burnt out needles, i was treated like a member of the family by him and his better half and can say that was the best cash spent on the car to date. lol i have only had it 5 days. Best wishes to you both, and hope to meet again soon. Gary.

Dont know about Jim Walker, but i can definatley vouch for Chris Vince.
He is a member on here, and there are several links to his details on various posts on dashboard problems on this site.

He returned my dash to me the next day fully functional again. He is reliable and very good value for money - which goes a long way in todays world....

I am one of loads of people who can't thank him enough - top man, great service and value.
Shame he doesn't run a garage
