Hi all I hope you can help. I have a 2001 430 sc jap import. Recently the engine warning light and vsc light came up on the dash. Have tryed several code readers and none of them will connect. Does anyone know what this fault could be and does the bypass/paper clip trick work? any help would be greatly appreciated. If it makes a difference the tyre monitering box is disconnected.

I don't know when Toyota moved from OBDii to Toyota K/CAN bus systems (JDM models seem to be in advance of the rest of the world) but this may be why you cannot connect up a code reader, it may be worth ring a Lexus Dealer and see if they will tell you which system you have then finding a local specialist to perform the diagnosis
Unfortunately the "paper clip" method is for earlier models, not for yours.

THANKS FOR THE HELP STEVE. MANAGED TO GET THE CODES OFF IT AND THE PROBLEM ONE IS THE YAW SENSOR CALIBRATION, WHICH SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM. I AM GOING TO HAVE TO INVESTIGATE. AS EXPECTED LEXUS WERE NO HELP AS ITS AN IMPORT.

I know the problem as mine is an imported Celsior and it used to be "that's a special order part" now I get the part number 1st and give them that and since then I have had no problems.
When you say yaw sensor that sounds like the height sensors and if so yes there have been problems with failures but check the linkage to them as they often seize/fail
