Hi all,

The CD players has jammed again Error 3 on my Altezza. Removing the fuse worked last time and reset all the cd's, but no luck this time. I'm do not want to spend the £400 plus that Lexus have said it will cost me to have it repaired, or £2500 for a new unit so I'm looking into the idea of a different unit.

Has anyone change there unit to a different type. Where did they get there unit and facia from. I was given the name of "Simion Badley" by an audio dealer who said he had patented a facia for his IS200. Any idea how to contact him?

Any help would be great. Going back to listening to tapes is awful.

Cheers,

Ken

How much for a new head unit? :o

I was quoted £650 for a new one. Someone's having a laugh.

hello. it is possible to buy a good radio/cd unit for under £300, however, has anyone removed the old unit from an altezza-z console without wrecking it, if so, i think you will make a lot of friends if you tell all, cheers, gds

It's actually very easy - I managed it, but you do have to be very careful, and it might be worth putting tape over the dash console just in case - there are some sharp edges on the cradle that supports the radio...
You will need: A screwdriver and a 10 mm socket with extender bar, and a copy of the instructions in the workshop post.

the instuctions in workshop are not for an original toyota altezza console layout as per my 1999 build sold retail in japan. ;) ;) ;)

Worked for me... I can't profess to have followed them to the letter as I left the print out in the house
Have you had a go?
For me all I had to do was prise the felt and air vents up out of the clips, pull the traction control panel out and unclip the electronics and get cracking with a socket....
What seems to be the problem?
gds
altezzaz, i have tried to lift the felt at the top of the console to the point when i feel damage will be done. what are the positions of the clips holding the felt covered board of the top tray???? appreciate your help, :) :) gds
altezzaz
just below the vent air vents there's a split in the plastic (sorry, can't think of a better way of describing it) where two plates meet - you need to lever the upper part - includes the felt tray and the air vents upwards - as it starts to move you'll see two clips start to extend down into the heater control panel. Rotate the tray assemblage upwards until the clips disengage, then pull it towards you (assuming there are no screws to undo) to release the clips at the back.
gds
:) :) :) :) altezzaz, brilliant, worked exactly as per your instructions, what next  there are now two bolt heads exposed, one on each side of the ac controls. sorry be a pain but all this diy is a foreign country to me. many thanks, gds
