Hi my 1996 GS300 Sport has developed a strange intermittent problem with the front wipers, when I set the stick control to intermittent (first click down) the wipers move up and down about 4 times for only say 3 inches then nothing. Once I flick the switch to on full the next click down on the stick the wipers work fine. I have noticed however that the wipers do not wipe to the full extent that they used to meaning not to the side of the drivers side windscreen they stop around 2 inches short of where they used to.
Nothing is different when the wipers are positioned in snow position or standard position (slightly raised or lowered when off) It also makes no difference when I move the frequency control, they just dont come on in the first position.
This fault developed about a week ago, the strange thing is that sometimes they work ok and I do not have this problem all the time.
From a previous post a long time ago I noticed the slight up and down movement 3 inches or so for a number of times but back then nobody knew why this was happening.
Does anyone know what is going wrong with my beloved GS?

When you put the switch in winter/snow position, do the wipers move up and park a few inches up?

You best check your wiring for bad or loose cables/connections. It might be a long shot, but I once had a car serviced (no lexus), where they forgot to plug-in some cabling at the engine compartment. Starting the car was no problem, but the wipers went nuts, stuck in high-speed. I can imagine that perhaps a cable is corroded or broken, therefore messing up the interval/relay at times. If you can get hold of a wiring diagram for the wipers, you can gently pull the cables/connections and see if that effects the operation of wiper-interval.
