i had an unfortunate task last night
whilst visiting my sister, received a phone call from her son saying he had had an accident, and that he was covered in blood
told us he had rung police and ambulance
my brother in law and me rushed to where he was (about a mile away)
on arrival we saw my nephews rover had gone head on with an escort (not to pretty)
this was in a narrow notoriousLY DANGEROUS road allmost country lane (farthing downs to those who know the area)
we assessed my nephew and he had cut his ear but wasnt serious, so we rang and cancelled the ambulance
at the same time asking where the police were
considering people were still speeding up the road we thought it was quite important

half hour later: rang police no sign yet
hour later : police rang us, cant find can you give directions (obviously road names dont count any more)
1.5 hours later: freinds arrive saying they have seen police going opposite way down same road (strange as road has no side roads !)
rang police: was told theyre on way
2hours later: police rang asking directions
2.5 hours surrey police arrive yes with "blue lights flashing"

they informed us that as the accident had happened allmost exactly on the met/surrey borders, the met police had come as far as their area then turned around and gone away, even though it was in the same road

so a 2.5 hour wait for police to arrive !!

to all those who stopped and showed concern THANK YOU
and thankfully the only thing damaged was made of metal

I'm just glad no-one was seriously hurt....

I'll bet a tenner that if your nephew had been speeding down that road, the Met police would of chased him till the stopped him, and not turned around at the end of their juristiction.

the biggest problem /fear was of other vehicles ploughing straight into the wreckage
when the police got there they closed the road off

Sorry to hear this Bazza
What the police did or did not do is totally unacceptable.
The Met unit if it was nearer should have , in the interests of public safety and protection of life, crossed over the boundary and started to deal with the accident. Once the Local Surrey unit arrived the Met could have handed over. To leave people involved high and dry for over 2 hrs is not on and there has been a neglect of police procedures. The big problem is that currently police complaints are investigated by the police themselves who report to the Police Complaints Board. Until there is an independent group of investigators the situation will not improve and I do not mean a group of ex police being recruited. Any new investigation unit must be 100% independent and away from the influence of any police force.
