Hi,

I'm new to the Lexus forum. I have a 2003 GS300 w/120k miles. She's been a very good car to me over the last 4 years. I recently noticed a whiney noise coming from under the hood. It doesnt make the noise when turning the wheel, only when the car is still or driving in a straight line. I checked the power steering fluid, it was a smidge low, so i added a little, but still didnt help. Any input you have is GREATLY appreciated :)

Thanks!

At that age I would change the power steering fluid as it is probably past its best. I have been slowly changing mine as the car has done 115k miles and it is making a difference. The simplest way is to use one of the pumps from a soap dispenser and pump out the reservoir, then top up (make sure you use the correct fluid - Dexron III). Run it for a few miles and repeat. Probably will do mine about 8/10 times to get a reasonable replacement of old fluid. The stuff that came out was black, not shiny red so was definitely worth doing.

If your car has 120K have you done the same with the gearbox, did mine, much better. Plenty of info on how to do that on the forum.
