the excess pressure from your crankcase is vented back into the intake. not ideal, but 99% of countries wouldn't stand for the oil vapours etc just being shat out onto the road or whatever. an oil catch can catches the solids of the oil and just passes the vapour on if you reroute it into the air inlet... alternatively, attach a filter to the "out" on the can and block off the hose going into your inlet, and it won't go back in at all. you will have to clean your filter and surrounding area of engine bay periodically though.
