Hi Bazza,

You may need to be more specific, but assuming you're using Internet Explorer, and you want to change the search engine used by the Search toolbar button.

I don't use this, but just took a look, and it seems to be pretty hardwired to get you to use MSN.

My advice would be to just add www.google.co.uk to your favourites and take it from there.

You can change the first page that Explorer opens on under,
'Tools-> Internet Options'

easy - download Mozilla Firebird, and ditch IE!

Firebird has google, dmoz and local page search built into the top right hand corner, and has a pop up killer built in.

Tabbed browsing is excellent as well.

I have been using Phoenix (as it was then) since about v0.4 - and now as Firebird at 0.6 - and really like it

Try find a program called search & destroy....

It's freeware and the guy who wrote the thing hates all these proggy's that fix themselves up on your computer, it strips them and can innoculate your pc from getting them again, superb if you've got cable or adsl :)

AS recommended by Ryan and seconded by me - that should stop any nasty stuff getting on your machine ;)

It is possible to change the default auto-search page, but the only way I know to do this is to edit the registry. (Usual dire warnings about regedt32 being able to totally screw your PC and cause the end of the world).

Look for the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchUrl and simply enter a new URL in it, e.g. To set Ask Jeeves as your default search page, change the default value to "http://askjeeves.com/AskJeeves.asp=%s" (without quotation marks).

Good luck :)

You could always install the google toolbar.

I swear by google as the best search engine andthe toolbar is superb, just places an extra toolbar on your window which searches via google without having to go to the google page, if you don't like it or don't want it on screen it's easy to uninstall or temporarily remove by changing the view.

Search google for google toolbar and you'll get the download link.
