hi all,
As some of you know ( Andy & Mat) I had a problem with the ignition switch getting stuck in the ACC position and being able to remove the key in this position thus locking out the ignition switch.
This happened last night AGAIN! I lubricated the barrel with WD40/ light oil and worked the key a few times in and out of the barrel and then gave the cylinder housing ( the housing, NOT THE ACTUAL BARREL!!!!!!!! - YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED) a very sharp tap using an aluminium drift and a hammer ( i always carry a tool kit in the car). The barrel then moved slighty and i heard a click I inserted the key and it worked fine, so something in there was stuck.
i now always carry a can of WD40!!
To get full access to the lock mechanism i had to remove the trim that surrounds the instrument cluster, but if this does happen to you, you dont have to remove anything to tap the cylinder housing.
I have now used about 1/2 a can of WD40 and compressed air to flush everything out, dirt/grit and old lubricant, etc ( have a look at your key and you might be surprised at the dirt on it)
after a quick squirt of light lubricating oil all seems to be working fine
You could also use graphite powder, BUT ensure that the internals of the lock are dry, otherwise you will end up with a yucky mess in the lock
I hope that this doesnt happen to anyone else but if it does the above might just help and save you an expensive towtruck trip.
