I will be picking up my new car on Monday, I am trading in my 2.8 XR 4x4 Sierra on a derestricted RS200 6M (oct 2000), I visited this site before looking at the car, and tested the CD player on the lot after reading about the inherent problems with it. It didn't work, all it displayed was ERR-3. The dealer said he would try and get it replaced. Is it possible for an IS 200 stereo to fit straight into the space left behind by removing the one from my RS, i.e are the plugs the same?
Also can anyone describe the difference between the L and Z edition?

I don't think the Altezza has the amplifier, so you would need the amp and the harness.
Would be easier to buy a facia plate, and fit a normal "DIN" size radio...

Ok, here goes... there are 2 stereo fixings to fit the UK spec IS - the S radio has an inbuilt amplifier and will not fit the SE or Sport, which have an amplifier built into the car - I know 'cos I've tried...
Next thing - some RS have the amp and some don't.. not sure on the rhyme and reason on this.
The way to tell is to open the glovebox and peer into the front wing - the amp is a silver box mounted towards the door end of the wing.
The good news is that if the amp is there, the Se radio will go straight in without changing the fixings, but when they cost 650 quid new, it might be worth looking around to see what else is available.
