hello
at JAPS there was a fellah selling silicone hoses in packs of ready cut lenghts
it was cheap
now he said it is ok for coolant
is it ok for brakes and other aplications?
if so which ones?

normal silicon hose cannot be used for brakes 1. it has no end fittings - 2.it isnt designed to take pressure 3. it may not be suitable for use with brake fluid.

what about all other applications ?
power steering, coolant etc

power steering uses fluid similar to brake fluid ( in some cars the brake/PS fluid is the same) so wouldnt want to chance it in the long term and also the end fitting issue comes into play. As for coolant then there is no prob there at all.

I know a lot of guys go for "braded" brake hoses. Certainly on bikes it sharpens up the braking performance a treat, but I don't have any experience of it on cars.

Nearly all competition cars use steel braided hose for the exact reason you mention .... more positive feel and no expansion in the hose under pressure..
