Hi,

Purchased my SC420 on Friday, it's being prepped prior to picking it up next week and i can't wait! Read a lot of rubbish on the net about Lexus cars being boring and the SC in particular being a poor car, that is inferior to the Jag XK8, Merc sl etc. Having compared and driven an XKR and SL, came to the conclusion that many "experts" have simply viewed the SC from a pure performance angle. Meanwhile in the real world where reliability, build quality, comfort, cost (purchase/running) and flexibility of use are issues the SC wins hands down.

I applaud their stance however, as they have enabled me to purchase a fantastic car at a fraction of its true value.

Be interested in your views.

Hi
I am involved with a Jaguar specialist and we buy , sell and maintain Jaguars both young and old.I have recently treated myself to an SC430 and can confirm it is my car of choice. On Friday I delivered a XK8 Convertible, a journey of 100 miles and apart from the stunning engine note, I was delighted to get back in to my Lexus
Good Choice.

Gareth, had my SC430 for about a week now and have come to the same conclusion, what a fabulous car and only a fraction of the price of a similar year/condition SL.Having read Clarkson's diatribe ( and others of a similar view )on how bad they were it just confirms my opinion of the motoring 'press'having their heads stuck up their backsides.
My only criticism is those plastic manhole covers stuck on the alloy wheels are just not attractive and detract from what is otherwiswe a very stylish body.Perhaps I'm being a bit picky?
Haven't been able to figure out yet if there is any SC430 get together events in the south east.I hope there is
as it would be good to chew the fat with a few other owners.

By far the cheapest car Ive owned in terms of maintenance. Had one 02 sensor in 8-9 years. I know I dont use it much but same with all my cars and my Range Rover cost me a fortune to keep on the road with little miles.

Thanks for the replies guys, picking the car up next week as it needed a cambelt and service. Comments re clarkson made me lol. One of the guys from Lexus in Birmingham told me he was at a trade show a few years ago and had been on the hit and miss all day, pitched up at the Lexus stand expecting to be treated like royalty, instead they f**cked him off. Could help explain some of his ridiculous comments re Lexus on the other hand maybe he's just a Knob.

A few years ago I used to take notice of the motoring journalists, and I remembered Autocar saying the S Class Merc was the 'best car in the real world'. Well I finally bought one and yes it was a great car, when it was working, but it broke down so much and it was rusting away so fast I traded it for an LS430 after 2 years.

The Lexus is in a totally different league for reliability and build quality. Read the independent reviews, such as the JD Power customer satisfaction survey, which Lexus have won for years. Don't take any notice of the journalists who have tried a car for a couple of days and been plied with 'hospitality'.

Hi Fellow Lexuns
I have toyed with the idea of getting a SC430 but the Roads up here in this part of Scotland would not make for a good driving experience as they are worse than farm tracks due to two very bad winters and the lack of public funds to repair them.
In support of the quality of build and reliabilty, My Ls400 is 21 years old and now reputedly the oldest legally on the road.
Unfortunatley it failed for the first time its MOT last week(corroded cill, £40 fix )mainly because the first LS400s had a water trap forward of the rear wheel arch.
Having owned the Car for 16 years and still do 600 mile journeys in a day I can vouch for these cars having more experience than any motoring journalist.
