i am in the process of purchasing a second hand is200se with 92000 on the clock& fsh, any one got any views on what i should expect to go wrong if any thing and how many carefree miles i might expect to get.

You have the expense of the 100,000 mile cam belt change soon. If buying from a dealer get them to do that as part of the deal.

Get the ball joints checked as they could be worn. Haven't heard of any engine problems if serviced correctly. Exhaust is stainless steel so that shouldn't be a problem for years

Check water pump for leaks - expensive repair but usually goes around 40k so you should be ok. Also check for pitting on the alloys and try loading/unloading some CDs to check that you don't get ERR3 and have the CD player jam.

Mines just coming up to 140,000 miles now and no major probs.

Would defo get the wheels done if any sign of corrosion as mine were only slightly pitted when I bought it 12 months ago and are now in a terrible state. Also check the cd as mines "Jammed up like a good un".

Engines fine though and still sounding sweeeeet! :D

Does that include the rear box as mine is coming up to 4 years and looks weel bad with rust, the rest of the system is nice and shiney though

Get them to replace the ball Joints, water pump, wheel hubs, alloys and if buying from a garege, they should give you at least 1 yr warranty. Secondly ask for new set of tyres as worn tyres can be expensive to replace. Otherwise, the car is sweet like a virgin.

the back box itself is 2 skin stainless steel, the inlet pipe to the rear box is aluminiumised steel, and does rust
