ok, for those who were in chat the other night, i have got an example of a car that i will be bringing in soon.
Altezza RS200 Z Edition
TRD front, rear and side skirts, Toms Barrel exhaust
41,000km (25,000 miles)
2000 model
after all costs, including importing, but NOT SVA(£500)
THIS CAR WILL SELL FOR £9,500
[img]http://www.lexusownersclub.com/gallery/albums/album01/altezza_japan.jpg[/img]
Who would be intrsted in similer vehicles
Monster-Mat
July 6, 2003, 1:41 pm
just out of intrest aswell i looked at Celica GT4 ST205'S
i can sell those for around £5000
supras for around £8000
full engineers reports will acome with the car as well as
english translation of all documents, and proof af de-registration in japan
Monster-Mat
July 6, 2003, 1:46 pm
on another point aswell........
i can source anything that takes your fancy....
as some peeps already know i run my own garage anyway, so the intention is to bring in slight accident damadged cars, as the initial cost is a tad lower than the Good cars.
this then should bring the whole cost down

Do the accident damaged cars show on the HPI register in this country or is this not a factor when importing .I have been toying with the idea of a supra twin turbo or an aristo vertex? .
Monster-Mat
July 6, 2003, 1:54 pm
nope will not show on HPI, the cars will be getting repaired by me, in germany before bringing them into the UK.
using genuin TOYOTA/LEXUS parts
I WILL NOT bring in anything that is major damaged, however the cars that have panel damage or light mechanical damage is no problem.
i have full jigging and painting facilitys to hand
Monster-Mat
July 6, 2003, 1:59 pm
there is someone lookingb at importing a Aristo Vertex through me/my importer at the moment
Monster-Mat
July 6, 2003, 2:02 pm
just to give you an idea what the accident cars go INTO auction at..........
100,000 yen.....go work that out,
i will bring examples of cars sold at auction to JAE
ColinBarber
July 6, 2003, 2:20 pm
What work/cost will be required for the cars to pass the SVA?
Monster-Mat
July 6, 2003, 2:54 pm
fog light conversion, and kmh/mph converter, band expander for the radio
i think a UK speedo head needs fitting
Fidgits
July 6, 2003, 3:05 pm
I apologise if this is slightly

... but have you considering importing 'more seriously damaged' Altezza's etc.. for breaking??
I think people may be interested in bodykits or certain parts? (e.g. Z-edition seats/rear spoiler)
Just a thought?
Monster-Mat
July 6, 2003, 3:15 pm
yes.......
ive considered it, and yes i will do it...but i need to get the ball rolling, im not going to import a car that costs £1000 then shipping,
to break and make £500
then have to pay to dispose of the shell
as it is at the moment, and i can vouch for it, the UK importers are adding 100% to the cars imported costs
i bid on a celica gt4 last night in japan, grade 4(out of 5.5 grades)
it sold for £1800......a celica gt4 st205 for £1800
how much do they sell for in the uk...£8000 +
as i know a loop hole, im doing this so people can get good quality Altezza's or anything else at cost price from japan, less some expenses
look at the pic of the altezza above, if i sold that for £8000......how much do you see them for sale at from the importers..£11,000-£13000
i have the auction paperwork for a silver altezza , with slight damage infront of me here, it sold in auction for £4000
all it needs is a bonnet, bumper and wing
what i find strange is......no one will belive this as its to good to be true, just like the UK is200 sports for £17,500 i can get......not one single person has taken me up on the offer.
fine
pay UK dealer prices, and the same goes for the importers prices
a friend of mine was going to pay £13,000 for a R32 Skyline, ive shown him what there going for in auction.
guess where his £5000 is going

Well, as far as I'm concerned, if i'd known about that before I bought my IS, I would of taken you up on it..
I think one of the major problems is that 75% of people here already have their car.
I think anyone considering buying an import should take you up on this offer.. but thats just my opinion...
Monster-Mat
July 6, 2003, 3:28 pm
so 25% still need a good deal...........

can i point out a problem i see happening , i have just imported an altezza from japan and got it through a sva test by putting it through as disabled but laws changing later this year and you cant do this you have to put it through a esva test , which posses problems with imports from japan because you cant get certificates for some of the installations so it has to have lab tests which is very costly . so check in to this forseable problem please
Monster-Mat
July 6, 2003, 10:29 pm
thats not the loop hole i am refering to
the loop hole im refering to is to do with where i am, the esva isnt a problem as i get the certificates issued while the car is in germany through a Gutacten, in the german TUV station
when the car is brought into the UK i get the esva test done, register the car, then its legally yours
this takes a day

Whenever i go to look at another car, i will look into importing. But it wont be for quite some time yet.
Just mentioning it so you dont think your banging your head against a wall.

This thread really got me interested.
I really do want an RS200 and from reading what Supracharged-IS340 has said so far I'm very keen.
Big problem is £££
I have at the mo an FTO that I would need to get rid of first before I do anything. Second I know it sounds pikey but £10k may be out of my budget!!
I wanted to get shot of the fto to replace it with a a 4 door saloon or 5 door hatchback. My choices were:
Impreza
Accord Type R
Golf GTI
For around £8500 - £9500
Always loved the Altezzas/IS200 but always thought it was out of price range and IS200 less nimble, until I saw the BEAMS one.
Now Iif funds allow the one you mentioned Graphite Grey RS200 would interest me. But have a few questions:
You mentioned that you bring over damaged and repaired Altezzas, the first one you posted - is that a damaged and repaired one?
My budget of £9.5 would include SVA etc. could you do anything with that figure?
What is involved with SVA to warrent £500?? (clueless about what is involved sorry
Anyhelp or suggestions much appreciated - I know you guys are a good lot
Monster-Mat
July 16, 2003, 10:46 am
the first was accident repaired it needed a new bumper and left wing
the esva will add a month to shipping times.as i get it done out of the country.
i can however get the car shipped directly to the uk, and you get your own esva done (direct shipping can only be done if no damage...but i can get damage done at the esva centre(not sure on prices))
if its a direct import though you will have to pay vat and duty on the car.
vat at 17% and duty at 10%
so on a 6k car you will pay approx £1400 on duty/vat, plus £500 shipping, and £400 esva, 10% finders fee on price of car £600
total price for car £8900 approx

will look.
low milage?
manual/auto?
some tuning?
or totally standered
colour?
Veece
July 16, 2003, 11:41 am
definately low mileage.
Manual would be nice, but I believe a bit harder to get hold of.
Not too bothered if tuned or not - although don't want one that is going to need TLC every five minutes (not much of a mechanic).
preferably silver, although not opposed to black or a nice blue colour.
Appreciate the help

Mat - purely from a hypothetical point of view (I'm not looking for a car).
What is the insurance position on importing a car with modifications?
would they need to be declared to the insurance company?
or - as the car has been imported from Japan, can you get away with saying "I don't know if it has been modified or not - as far as I know this is standard Japanese spec".

Interesting stuff.... I wish I knew about this before I bought my motor!!
Nevermind... I'll know for next time....
Just one thing I've never seen mentioned in these forums is 'rust proofing' Japanese imported cars? I was looking into an imported FTO a while ago and did a load of research on the web.
All the sites mentioned the usual stuff of the fog light, speedo and even checking the tyres. However they also mentioned having the underside of the car treated against rust / corrosion... apparently EU cars are built with this in mind but not Japanese cars?
Does this only apply to FTO's, all Japanese sourced cars or am I talking cr@p?!!
