Oops, there's speeding and then there's speeding....

Can you imagine a cyclist in a 157mph impact....
Loz
strange, the ideas that bring you pleasure first thing in the morning, Ryan!
Rob
anyone seen a film called" Ghostrider"???? guy over taking a car in the outside lane between car and barrier!!!!!!!! and at 180mph!!! :duh:

those of you with adsl can get it quickly on Kazaa.

Opppppsss this guy was only in third speed :)

Anyway very stupid indeed, this guy should go on a track to see real speed corner effects :P
Matthew_McNally
I believe that motor cyclists are on this planet for one reason only.

organ donors.

not long 'till this guy is helping some needy soul out with a new liver or such

Dunno at 157 mph, I'm seriously dubting that you can save something from him... :P
bam-bam
Have to agree guys, although I've been riding myself since age 15 it only took a 70kph incident with a volvo 740 to cost me a shoulder(amoungst other things) and wipe off 3 1/2 years of my life to recover(and not fully at that!)
I,ve slowed down somewhat since....tho there are the occasional track days.....time and place-and public thoroughfares are not one of them!

(note) still not conned myself into the F4 vince!

I hit another bike and I was only doing 70 MPH. Suffered from the injuries ever since. Retired from the highway to woods riding after that one.
Fever
I've always wanted a bike.....but the lack of a metal case, impact bars and airbags has always made me think twice!

I know you would say, just drive it safely....but there is no accounting for what other idiots on the road might do!!

That guy is a big time thrill seeker....not too sure that he'll be doing it that way for much longer now!!

I just heard it too, apparently there was a second with him too, he clocked 149mph
Loz
Reckon I could get 200mph out of my old nitrous powered Yammy V Max. Never dared use the Nos on the road.

I used to ride GSXRS fast on the road and even had a GPZ750 Turbo that was quite quick. I reckoned I was driving as though someone as fast aS ME WAS COMING ROUND THE CORNER THE OTHER WAY.

In hind sight I reckon I was just being a node and should never have riden that fast.

Confession time.

On any given ( Dry ) Sunday. I could have been that fool that got caught throughout the summers of 1995-7 only reason not in 1994 when I got my licence was cos my bike would only do 130mph max....

Not bragging, just saying I used to be a numpty too. but I grew out of it. realised my responsibilities..call it what you will.

Well they both got 28 days in jail - has justice been done

See,

The Governmane is wrong, if you'd been doing 50 you'd never have been hit! :0

Sorry to hear of the accident, I used to ride a bike, but fancy one again!

Justin.

Fastest I've gone is 125 in a Scirrocco; it wouldn't go any faster.

From the video footage of the incident, I assume the donors looked up the road from the LHS of the lorry before overtaking on the right. Could easily have had a car doing the same speed as the lorry on the right.

Never met a biker with all his bits.

These sports bikes are too aero-dynamic ;) An R1 is good for 170mph+ , but drop an R1 engine into a sit-bolt-upright Fazer and you have the perfect solution... air resistance!! ;) Ballistic acceleration, but get above 70-80mph and you'd need neck muscles like Arnie to keep going
vince-com
LOL Dunno, the perfect engine for a bike is definitly a V 2 cylinders, and MUST be italian :P

The first one was an LOC discussion on such high speeds from a few months ago

Brings up some very different points of view on such a hot topic !!!
randyreindeer
I personally believe that people who ride bikes tend to be more aware of them when driving their cars.
I've never had a serious bike accident but that may down to my Fireblade being nicked before I had a damn good chance to tan its *****.
One thing that does annoy me about this case is why put him in Jail. Arn't they overcrowded enough
Claire G
He wasn't in prison for long! He was sentanced to 28 days with half that sentance suspended. With good behaviour, apparently he'd be out within a week
mudzs
I agree he should not have been sent down ,But i think he should have been banned for life 150mph on a crowded road is taking the :tsktsk: .sorry if this upsets anyone but anyone with such a disregard for life derserves no sympathy.

Ever been to Germany? No big deal there ....
Monster-Mat
indeed its not.............

will need to "shake down" the monster somewhere :whistling:
mudzs
157mph in any country is to fast and should be left for on the track. as for no big deal in germany would you really like to see people doin that sort of speed in this country .I think a crash at that sort of speed is amost unsurvivable .But hey if he,s your hero so be it .
Monster-Mat
i dont thinkl its anything to do with hero's

i havnt seen anyone say what they did was good......

but sometimes people act so **** prim and proper.....

whatever justice they were given, its been done.

of course no one on this forum never speeds, or should that be gets caught.

i have a race license and do take it out on the track.....but i also live in Germany and drive always above 100mph.....and so does the guy in the 1 litre polo

traffic flows, and accidents arnt as common as you think....why......

road diciplin

but this is going off topic

lets all get back on the soap box and preach what good drivers we all are
mudzs
I hav,ent read about anyone preaching about how good they are at driving just people airing their veiws on a bloke on a motorbike doing 157mph in ENGLAND.And yes i agree it is about rd disipline but try telling that to the 80 year old with no reaction time to get out of the way or the div on his mobile phone .At this speed you cannot allow for other peoples mistakes there just is not time
TonyGoose
To put the Germany thing in perspective ...

Yes you can blast along at 150+ on much of the motorway network.
There are restricted sections though.. either side of intersections for example.
So if there's a limit, there's a reason and from what i've seen, it's mostly obeyed.

BUT, you can also be booked for speeding @ less than 20mph !!
Outside schools for example. Happened to 2 of my relatives.
So, where a limit is merited, it's there... and enforced.
Seems perfectly logical to me... but then common sense often does.

If there's no real need, why artificially (and needlessly) jam up the traffic....
at some arbitrary speed ramdomly plucked out of the air in the 1960's.

Drivers can concentrate on driving rather then looking for cops + cameras.
It's all irrelevant anyway. The flow of traffic now on m/ways is way over 70.
If they make the limit 80, anyone obeying it will still be causing an obstruction ...
